An awful time for someone (me) to try and get my first role in the game industry :’)

I recently just completed NieR Automata and then immediately played NieR Replicant straight after. I originally bought Automata in 2019 but it didn’t click until this year when I tried it out again, for some reason. I don’t think I completed any other games this year. I was primarily playing Overwatch and fighting games (got into Strive this year).

What excel spreadsheet-esque games do you play, out of interest? haha

I’m really happy most of these games are available on Steam. Rez in VR is amazing (and Tetris Effect, made by the same team I think).

God, me too. I don’t understand why ‘arena fighters’ in that style just seemed to fall off the face of the earth.

Eaaaaasily the Dreamcast, even though I think I was the only person I knew that had one. I think I had:

  • Shenmue
  • Power Stone
  • Soulcalibur
  • Quake III Arena
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • Capcom vs SNK
  • Timestalkers
  • Sonic Adventure
  • Phantasy Star Online

Stellar lineup. I also loved my PlayStation.

Deathmatch has always seemed a bit pointless in Valorant. It just seems too slow for it. Maybe I’m just bad.

I’ve always loved Half-Life, and Black Mesa really does it justice. Xen was beautiful, even if it was still quite frustrating towards the end. I bought it at the 1.0 release, would be great to see if they’ve added/changed things now… they seem to be really dedicated to updating it!

What games were so good you completed them in one sitting?
I.e., games that hooked you in and you couldn't stop playing until it was finished. Not games that just happened to be unexpectedly short. And by "completed" I guess I mean the main story etc, not 100%ing the game :). For me, it would be Catherine, Bioshock Infinite and Black Mesa (although I think I got to the final area then had to go to sleep and complete it the next day). I also played an ungodly amount of Hades in one sitting, but didn't get the "full" ending in one day.

Are you playing with 3D enabled? (If you’re on a real 3DS). I think I tried it out the first 10 minutes I had a 3DS then never turned it on again, ha.

Nothing a hard fork can’t fix :D

EDIT: in the git sense, not literally stabbing people with a hard fork

I primarily play games on Linux (on desktop, not steam deck). I’ve been doing so for about 6 years or so. Steam + Proton and other gaming-focused wine builds have made gaming on Linux far better than I could have ever imagined. The only thing that keeps me on Windows is primarily work related stuff. I work in game development (specifically VR), where Windows is pretty much a necessity :').

I want to go back to playing Nier Automata and finally complete it. As much as I love the aesthetic (yes), the general questing segments have always confused me a fair bit.

edit: spelling :p
