This sort of bullshit is why I stopped buying consoles and instead have bought thousands of games through GoG and Steam.

It can if the engine makes the game run poorly or not at all (I wouldn’t buy it) or if the engine is exceptionally well regarded and runs great it might make me a bit more inclined to buy the game.

If it’s an engine famous for being janky, it might also make me delay buying the game until devs or modders fix it.

Also, if the engine is known for being mod friendly, that would probably make me more inclined to consider buying the game.

Yeah, and a lot of them ditch the DRM after a while. Steam is it’s own DRM anyhow, it’s one I don’t terribly mind because it consistently works without fucking up my gaming experience (even augmenting it at times - which no other stores do).

I think it probably had more to do with having a store that worked well, games that had good prices, and most importantly: Good customer service. The only other service that comes close is GOG, and that’s mostly because of their DRM free policy.

Well, if they make anything good I can always just emulate it for free a few years later! I still have a shitload of other older consoles I can emulate and haven’t played yet, plus my actual PC game library of thousands of games, so I should be able to occupy myself for quite a while.

They’ll be seeing none of my money then. Maybe if I ever bother to play them it’ll be for free on an emulator years from now, but honestly, I have a massive backlog of amazing games to play so it might not even be worth the effort. I bought most of their PC releases too. Oh well.

Cool, guess I’ll just emulate them for free then! I was getting kind of tired of giving Sony my money anyways.

Yeah, but the virtual keyboard and trackpad works well enough to get around that without actually plugging in peripherals (at least for what I’ve played so far).

Seems obvious, though there are already a ton of verified games just for the Steam Deck already (even most of the ones that aren’t seem to run fine from what I’ve tried so far).

I was thinking indie games becoming more popular, people defaulting to refurbs/repairs over new stuff, and developers being forced to optimize their software, games, and OSes, buuuuut, yeah that’s a distinct possibility too.

They’re inevitable because companies already know they’re going to do everything they can to fuck us over for as much profit as they think is possible. We’ll see how this all plays out though.

Dying Light 2 has been my go-to for the last few weeks, so I’ll probably play some more of that.

Never tried it but glad to hear it, games benefit by embracing the modding community rather than attacking it. Minecraft, Skyrim, and other mod friendly games were all wildly popular (they even got modders to help fix stuff for free).

I haven’t played, but have experienced this with games and sometimes certain tasks at work.

Gliding is definitely my favorite, but that about sums it up. Still, I hope it gets a sequel or an expansion or something.

A Short Hike was fantastic! I don’t know that it necessarily lends itself to screwing around though.

On a semi-related note, Donut Country is also a lot of fun.

Games I’ve enjoyed in terms of shenanigans:

-GTA 3-5

-Just Cause 3 (4 too, but it’s not as good)

-Untitled Goose Game

-BOTW

-Read Dead Redemption 2

-Saint’s Row 2-4

-Cyberpunk 2077 (driving is kinda meh, motorcycles are a little more fun)

-Watchdogs

-Elder Scrolls

-Teardown

Also, I haven’t played it, but I heard the new Indiana Jones game is fun with high shenanigan potential.

I’ve played this: If you liked Vampire Survivors, you’ll probably also like this one.

Probably Vampire Survivors or Vampire Hunters: Sometimes it’s just nice to play something where you don’t really have to think too hard.

Damn, I should really go back and play this. Bet it runs great on Steam Deck too!

Still kind of getting into it, but I haven’t quit playing yet lol

The airship thing is kinda what sold me on it actually.

The Dread Delusion - First person RPG with N64-esque graphics set in a broken world.

Heroes of Hammerwatch: It’s a roguelike 2d isometric RPG. Haven’t played much yet but so far I haven’t found a reason to stop playing.

$69.99

That’s cool, I’ll continue not buying your shitty, overpriced games!

If you happen to make a good one, maybe I’ll buy the fully patched DRM free version with all the DLC for $5 in a few years.

I’m sure it has nothing to do with shitty half baked $70 games
