The 2038 WC to be hosted by Elon Musk. He will bully and pester MLS into using their biggest stadiums for free, keep exclusive streaming rights for Xitter, force all teams to use cyber trucks, and imprison the media in storage containers in the middle of the Texas wilderness, and constantly moan about how it’s a terrible sport. But because he’ll throw a shit load of money at FIFA, they will gleefully accept all terms.
They are in the Championship. I just looked and see they are about 2/3rds off the bottom of the table. It was either last season or the season before that they came really close to promotion back to the PL. They lost they playoff final. They’ve apparently fallen on a bit of hard times, which I guess explains why they are looking for a new manager.
From what I’ve heard, one of Lampard’s biggest problems is that he’s a phenomenal man-manager and does great with inspiring his teams, but he’s tactically weak (compared to other top-tier managers).
Maybe he just needs to cut his teeth with a lower division club (Championship or below). But I think this is his fourth or fifth try. Surely he can’t have many more chances before top clubs just avoid him. He needs to take this chance full on and succeed at it. Because he might not get another.
The funny thing is that they’ve actually improved the graphics of the game a lot over the years. Not just things like water animation, but in improving the resolution of bitmaps for characters, landscapes, etc. they’ve even totally overhauled the graphics for some races (e.g. gnomes, which for a while in beta led to nightmarish animations of their eyes bulging through their eyelids when they blinked).
But to your point: yes, they’ve deliberately left the characters having a goofy, disproportionate cartoonist feel. Because it’s such an integral signature of the game, always has been, and always will be.
Wow, those stats are wild! I guess Postecoglu gets more latitude in the media because at least he’s not publicly bearing his players and disrupting the changing room.
Also factor in that Ten Hag has managed to win a major trophy (FA Cup, last season). Whereas Postecoglu hasn’t. Tottenham’s last trophy of note was the League Cup back in 2007/08.
Not a big surprise on the Huffman Shitshow. A lot of subs over there are insanely toxic. But yeah, a ban for that? That’s crazy.
I didn’t even know RuneScape had a subscription! I think I briefly played it about 15 years ago. Good game, I just don’t have the time to play it, unfortunately. I assume you play? What’s the community like over there?
I just looked up their pricing and it makes sense for them to have an optional subscription. $14 a month is in line with other similar games (e.g. wow). Would be nice if they had a couple of tiers of subscription. Maybe a $7 and a $14. But that might complicate things. How much can you do on the free mode?
Chelsea’s owners: “We’re going to axe/refuse to cooperate with a widely respected manager who dragged us into Europe with a ramshackle squad after a really rough start! I bet nobody else would do something this crazy!”
Man United’s owners: “Hold my beer!!!”
Seriously though, at least wait until after cup final before hinting at such a decision! How is this not going to totally unsettle their squad for a big match? Why don’t they just concede the cup to Man City before kickoff and be done with it!
Eh, I’m okay with it if that happens. They aren’t really worthy rivals anyway, and haven’t been for most of the past 25-30 years.
But you’re right, as things stand I can see them struggling in general in the near future.
I feel bad for Postecoglu. I don’t think he fully realized what he was getting himself into.
I’m totally with you on the need for a good third alternative. I prefer Android to iOS from a usability perspective (I used to have an iPhone for work, and that UX was incredibly counter-intuitive to me). But I’m well aware of the shortcomings of Android (including the spying aspect).
A solid Linux-based mobile phone OS that had sufficient carrier support for it to be usable for less tech-savvy users would be amazing. Maybe some day…
I used to have the same problem with my Android phones crapping out at the 2 year mark. That was with Motorola and Samsung phones, and an LG got my wife. I know there are lots of people who have had good fortune with those brands of phones, but that wasn’t the case for me.
I ended up getting a 1st gen Pixel, and that sucker lasted for over 5 years. I’m now on a Pixel 4a, and about two years in and everything is going well. I’m not sure if it’s just Google phones in general, or if the quality of Android phones in general is improving. But either way it’s encouraging. In my experience (and the experience of several other people I know), Google makes damn good phones. It’s a shame they are a shitty company in other (i.e. ethical) areas.
I could see him being a good addition to your squad in this context. He’s certainly got the experience and leadership ability. And assuming there is no major language barrier he could be a great fit, not least because he probably has a season of two left in his tank in a less frenetic league than the PL.
I’ve been hearing this argument for 15+ years. It’s very gradually improving in quality, but it can’t reach a critical mass because a) the North American market is already saturated with other sports, and b) the league is structured in a way that prohibits its natural growth (isolated league with no risk of relegation and where most teams are franchise that are artificially propped up and owned by the league). And that’s not going to change.
MLS is and will remain a farming league where the best American players are cherry-picked by clubs from outside the continent. That’s the goal of most of the younger players, and I don’t blame them for it.
Good. Get fucked Millwall!
I was watching a video of YouTube this weekend where a Danish guy went to the New Den to watch “Britain’s most hated team”, and the level of whitewashing was shameful. He kept going “everyone’s so nice here, lots of families! Why is this club so hated?” And interviewing Millwall fans who massively downplayed the clubs history of racial abuse and violence. One was saying that “there was a little bit of trouble back in the 80s, and now the club is a convenient peg to hang hooliganism on”.
Absolute joke! You can’t run around for decades assaulting people and causing untold violence and grief and then just hand-wave it away. Same thing goes for Leeds and Chelsea (but arguably to a lesser degree). We remember. And we aren’t going to forget!
