You can be mad about it but both these things are true. The online community hating on denuvo is a vocal minority. You’re not wrong to hate on it but it doesn’t matter because the majority are the horny sheep you described. This shit still sells. Its just like mtx - it was obviously awful to enthusiast gamers but goddamn the general pop just dove fucking headfirst into buying that shit so now we’re stuck with it
Besides that I just kept feeling like it was “been here, done that”. I remember at one point there is a small village and you have to choose to pull their power source or leave it and it felt so damn familiar, I didn’t bother continuing much past that. I felt like if I hadn’t played a bunch of elder scrolls and fallout games it was probably great but for me it was so much retreading old ground I couldn’t stay interested.
Demons souls doesnt explain any fucking thing. Theres a lot that would take incredible effort to figure out on your own, I think they intended for it to take a community to get things figured out together.
Its been a really long time but I remember theres a ring in the first area that lets you have a lot more health while unkindled or whatever they call it in that one. Its sort of secret, I think just before the first boss in that area you drop down a hole into a room. For me at the time this was a major boon.
I also found it way easier to start as a spellcaster. Many traps and fights are easier from a distance or by using magic to bait enemies out so you can fight one on one and avoid group ambushes. There really is so much trial and error in this one, you are going to get blasted and have to memorize it all.
There are a lot of NPC phantoms that only appear with certain world tendencies, usually full white or full black. Its really a major bitch to get everything because of the effort to manipulate it. I made it through most of the game without even realizing what was happening. I do remember in the last area farming flying manta ray things and using black world tendency to get more souls so theres that if you get desperate. Good luck!
Been a long time and I know they updated a lot since then but…
It looks like you built out a ton of facilities before you have enough inmates to use them. Probably will run into problems if you dont have a good profit going, so I would try to leave more of a buffer. I think license plates and woodshop were decent money makers. I wouldn’t accept too many max sec prisoners until that is going. They are more profitable to have but the contraband from those two shops is useful for escapes so you need good security.
I separate my cell blocks, and usually centralize them a bit. If you keep min security, med and max separate from eachother you can manage their security needs better and usually keep maxers from killing others as much. Especially separate any CIs in their own section. Keeping it central means they need to tunnel further. Make sure K9 patrols around each block as well as your overall perimeter. The large perimeter is the last chance to catch but its huge so you really want to catch them earlier.
I think your chapel can be way smaller. I just dont remember it needing to be that big. Dont be afraid to build multiple of each room type to continue keeping the different security types separate. You can use schedules to help with that too if you need to have them use the same room area. Early on when I couldn’t afford that I would make sure they all took their meals separate I pretty much dont let max sec go anywhere they can get weapons or tools, so I just have them use a small caf and maybe small chapel of their own, or whatever need they have to satisfy. Pretty sure when they mix they give eachother contraband so watch out for that.
One other thing I did was make special guard only access hallways. These things would let the guards get around a lot more easily which will help reduce overall staffing needs - otherwise it takes too much time to get around. Its gotta be quick and easy to get to kennels and the armory, but very difficult for prisoners to get to those. If a riot breaks out and they get to the armory you’re fucked.
That’s all I remember, theres so much to know in this game its crazy.
Accuracy. When the slightest twitch makes me spin its way harder to consistently hit targets, especially small ones at a distance. Slower is better for sniping, faster works if you’re rocking shotties. A buddy of mine plays so much quake he has macros that adjust his mouse speed upon switching weapons so it adjusts accordingly, and it really makes a huge difference.
Dude thats crazy. I havent paod full price for a game in years, have a little patience and you can get a bunch more games for that much.
Games are always on sale.
As I recall the powers combined with shooting was really new to the genre, along with the ways you combine them. Lighting enemies on fire who would run to water to put themselves out, then hitting water with electricity to zap a group was creative stuff. The way big daddies acted like a boss fight you could tackle in a bunch of different ways was significant too. The options there and with many other obstacles gave player agency for how to navigate most non-linear levels that was a real rarity. For instance, those turrets - have you shcoked them and hacked them? What about freezing them and hacking them? Or using hypnosis on enemies to make them fight the turret? But hacking all those turrets makes for a great distraction in a big daddy fight. And breaking the turrets gives you more ammo.
At the time most shooter were “go here shoot this, go there shoot that” and hell, thats still really common. This game really shook it up, even if it drew inspiration from thief and system shock, it did a lot to improve and advance them. Combined with the unique environment, smart story line, and interesting characters there’s plenty of reason it sticks in people’s memories as an all time classic.
I never pay full price for a game.
Always running sales. If they aren’t just check history or set an alert on isthereanydeal and wait a bit.
Callisto was just clunky and no fun. I didn’t get very far because it was otherwise too samey as Dead Space and the remake was better.
I don’t think it does a lot of good to hinge things on the name of one guy being involved like Schofield. It’s made by a team. The OG Dead Space team really nailed it but Schofield wasn’t necessarily the guy bringing in the creative aspects that made it so good. Part of me would prefer another new IP, especially since DS3 was kind of crap, but Callisto kind of killed my hope for that answer.
My main issue is a perspective thing - it felt like playing half assed fallout in space, in the sense that many questlines and stories felt very “been there, done that”. Its probably great if you haven’t played fallout 3 or new Vegas, but it just didn’t do much that was new beyond a coat of paint so I just got bored with it.
So uh, does this work on PC, or is it locked to Xbox? What is the advantage here vs a non branded version?
I’m avoiding MS and Meta like the plague anyway but I’m just curious. I see VR still must be a thing but I haven’t heard of any stellar games since half life and beat saber. I’ve been waiting for price drops and forgot about it completely in the mean time.
