Poor Tango gameworks. They really tried to do things different and Hi Fi Rush was especially awesome. I weep for the AI churn that will spit out some soulless sequel.

I have it takes two, played the whole thing on steam without EA launcher. Was on my steam deck, so maybe linux dodged that somehow?

They arent… But thats overkill too, you can get ps5 equivalent with a 3080. I don’t even consider that the overall stat to worry about, its more like install base and scalability. You can run a lot of PS5 games with less power, and having so many steam users who will be retained longer through multiple console generations has value. I dont need to purchase a PS6 when my PC will run those games and keep my old ones. I can buy new games without buying new hardware. Thats a valuable market for someone selling software.

A studio is only ever as good as its people. Those people will move to other things, sometimes they will group together under a new name. So yes, totally possible, you just might not recognize them if it happens.

Better off with tips, mods if not done carefully can get you banned from online play. Online play is good.

Explore the surrounding area, generally follow the light path north until you hit the first big boss and die (entrance to a castle, cutscene) its a significant step and then explore more instead of railing on him. Try going south after that. You can go east a bit but if you get to a red area called Caelid stop and wait until knocking out a few other areas first.

Summon help if you need it. There is an item you can craft to do so, easy to find more crafting ingredients. It does open you to invasions but you can summon two helpers making that a 3 on 1 fight.

Place down your summoning sign to scout and grind for runes. You dont get as much runes but it can be a easy way to practice areas. Spend all your runes on leveling and items, when in doubt buy talismans and spells and arrows and other supplies. You can respec later to use some of that stuff. This way you have nothing to lose but time if you explore and die.

If you dont want to be invaded get the summoning bell. You can use this to summon an NPC helper for many areas. Theres a little totem thing designating where. The NPC helpers have abilities and are great for distracting enemies. Find the easier dungeons, usually cave entrances, many of them reward you with another summon for beating the boss inside.

Try out every weapon and spell and read every item description. Different weapon types have different move sets and its worth finding what works for you.

Dodge dip duck dive and dodge. Dodging has a moment of invulnerability, learn to time it right and you can roll right through attacks. Roll or circle around enemies to backstab. If there is a group of enemies try to single them out and take them one by one. Use arrows spells or other tools to lure them out. Take your time when you can. Advance in unfamiliar areas with your shield up in case of ambushes.

If an area is way too difficult mark it on your map and come back later. The game is massive and there is a ton of other things to explore and find that will help you out. It does take practice but dont be discouraged by the git gud bullshit.

Im pretty sure I just blocked all cookies every where and called it a day. They dont really do anything useful anywhere I go. Fuck it.

Im surprised I never heard of that. Playstation was my console of choice for several generations before I switched to PC. I used to really pay attention to everything they did.

Original steam machine came out in 2015. This is why big picture mode was introduced. People liked them but they werent a big seller, and was generally considered a flop. Apparently enough of a flop that some people don’t remember it.

I figure itll be in the bargain bin soon, so if whats there plays well enough I will give it a go. A shame it doesnt live up to expectations but it might still be fun to me.

So… Entertaining to someone like me who never played the original and has no expectations beyond playing as a vampire?

Indie is short for independent, as in, independent from outside support, specifically a publisher. Publishers frequently dictate how a developer does certain things as a result of wanting a return on their investment. The whole indie movement came from studios who wanted to do their own thing without a publisher squashing their ideas, and would therefore self publish.

There’s a huge misunderstanding that pervades the gaming industry where people associate small studios with being indie. They really aren’t. You can’t be indie if you depend on another entity to handle marketing, distribution, etc., who as a result has influence on your work. Being a small studio who uses 8 bit graphics or other stylistic devices doesn’t make a group indie, it just means they are trying to emulate being indie. “Indie publishers” know this is a marketing ploy that sells, and will therefore invest in and influence such projects.

Thats what I did. Put it on a dock on the tv and attached a wireless keyboard and mouse too. Good to go.

I still play it once every few years. Love that game. Tons of secrets, dont look at any guides until you beat it, and have explored thoroughly.

Nah, if it didnt hook you in the beginning nothing would happen later to change that. Good story, acting, visuals, but combat gets repetitive and needed something more to shake it up.

This is why I ran Lune in party as a healer for 95% of the game. Layering healing pictos results in healing / revives that buffs the party too. If I couldnt survive that long enough to practice parries then I felt underleveled and would go explore elsewhere, upgrade weapons, etc.

It depends on the games you like to play. I’m mostly single player or co op, so my biggest issue was actaully because nVidia put out broken drivers earlier this year. Luckily it was pretty easy to roll back to a version before that and wait for a fix. You may need to learn a few terminal commands for that sort of thing but I just searched the internet to learn how, wasnt too hard.

If you play things like battlefield, CoD, etc., their anti cheat stuff does not play nice with linux. I have not tested these waters. I am currently playing Clair Obscure and Hollow Knight (OG) without issue. Also went through plague tale requiem, split fiction, the alters, everspace, lies of P, outer wilds, tempest rising, steam world build, valheim, path of exile 2 this past year. Lies of P and Tempest Rising are where I ran into issues on nvidia drivers but rollback fixed it. Path of Exile 2 had some other weird issue on boot, I think I had to find a config file to force it to dx12 instead of vulkan to boot. Really these are similar sorts of random issues I have always associated with PC gaming when I was on windows, sometimes shit doesnt work on my hardware and I gotta fiddle with it. Protondb.com can be helpful for troubleshooting when that happens.

I am using Bazzite which mimics the steam deck OS. I think the hardest part for me was choosing a distro. Bazzite works well for me since 95% of my PC use is gaming, but there are many others to consider if you want to do other things. Some light internet browsing and word processing are about all I do otherwise. You can load a distro onto a USB stick, boot from USB to try it out, and switch around that way to check out some other options. Then install to hard drive for a more permanent decision.

Damn I had to look that up cause it seemed unbelievable. I am shocked it reviewed that well. It just seemed so awful to me.

Am I so out of touch?? No, the children are.

Sekiro is as close as you’re gonna get to that for now. But yes.

It seems lazy to take this long to call them lazy. I think I dropped off around MW3 maybe? Just remember feeling like too much of a rehash back then.

How the hell are GTA and Red Dead still selling this much? Like, I get that they are good games but holy shit theyve been out a long time, I would have thought most people that want them would have bought them ages ago

I think the early weapons are stiff but the later ones have better move sets. What is cool is if you find a move set you like it is attached to the handle, so you can swap that with a blade you’ve upgraded. New moves, retain your upgrades. Unfortunately doesnt work with the special weapons, which tend to have some of the better move sets too, but still a neat feature.

Absolutely love this game for a lot of the reasons you listed and more. They really give you a lot of tools to toy around with and solve problems your own way. I spent my first playthrough carrying turrets everywhere with me and setting up killzones to lure enemies into, spent another using my powers to blast the shit out of everything, and then yet another using the goo gun on just about everything I could. That goo gun seems lackluster at first but really is one hell of a useful tool. Black hole grenade things are awesome too, use them wisely to get a ton of good resources.

A lot of people did not like the mooncrash DLC but I found it enjoyable too. Its definitely different, with the way you need to replay and upgrade characters between who each have a different set of skills. The hazards change each playthrough but the map layout itself doesn’t. When you learn your way around its satisfying to do the whole thing in one run trying to get every character to escape. Just takes a different kind of planning. Maybe being on a timer messed people up,

It goes on sale all the time for around $5. Its almost tragic, I think it sold poorly, but its really a great game.

Rayman Legends was fucking great. Damn that was so long ago

I try them out. Been gaming since I could hold a controller. Been reading for the same. Been drinking since well before it was legal, I know what its like to drink a warm 40 cause you had to hide it, no fridge. I avoid ads like the plague and I’m old enough that listening to youtuber shills is like ear sandpaper, the only thing they influence me to do is turn them off.

I am constantly seeking new experiences, that is the fun in life. With games my tastes have changed because of it. I barely play shooters anymore when it used to be a core genre because really it just feels lile same old with a new coat of paint. I go to beer and food festivals and try whatever looks good… Basically everything. And my book list is much like my gaming back log - I need more time, theres just too much. This is where reviews and recommends help - how do I prioritize my list otherwise? If I just select at random I will waste my time and money on things I dont enjoy. But taking a recommendation doesn’t mean I must like the thing, I can still experience it and form my own opinions, as everyone else does. Hell, its good when I agree with a reviewer - if they have similar tastes as me it becomes an opinion wprth listening to.

You seem super jaded about liking something that this community mostly hates. Whats the point though, why not just go enjoy what you like? You’re obviously not persauding anyone here, but I bet you can find communities for those types of games - I know for a fact clash of clans, fire emblem, genshin, all have them.

I’m not looking down on anyone, but dont pretend that’s high quality stuff over there. Just like with the games, I said earlier theyre having fun and thats great, but its still low quality games. I can continue the comparison - beer. The most popular ones are complete swill (bud miller coors). Books - James Patterson and Danielle Steel will keep pumping shlock out until they die, and I bet that shit will still sell like hotcakes for years after. Its not like I’m going around knocking burgers and beers out of hands going “hey loser get some taste!” I just choose a higher quality item for myself. Dont be too much of a victim here, you’re allowed to enjoy those things too, by all means. Just dont fool yourself into thinking it’s high tier premium grade caviar.

I love a good burger and fries, but mcdonalds is fuckin awful

Its the age old subjective vs objective criteria, and for certain people of different perspectives one will outweigh the other. Nostalgia is very subjective - most of those classics are called classics because they were fantastic at the time of release. They dont hold up today on a technical level, so objectively their quality by today’s standards is dirt, but whether or not someone still finds it entertaining or fun to play is entirely dependent on that person. The only way to measure that is to take an average of the judgemental reactions of many people - essentially consensus.

The problem with phone games is that objectively the large majority of them are poorly made, with subversive mechanics meant to manipulate the casual audience into spending on them. Their goal isn’t fun so much as addiction. It works because it is so largely available to a massive casual audience. The large majority of these people wouldnt bother to purchase a console or a PC for gaming. I’ve met people who actively say they think video games are a waste of time but they’re on level 1000 of candy crush and spending money on power ups. These people do not visit gaming forums and are not gaming enthusiasts, they dont see an issue, nor would they care if you point it out. Subjectively, they like it, they’re having fun, and that’s fine, but that is not the audience you are speaking to here. For this crowd the issues are readily apparent. Its immediately obvious to use why these games are balanced poorly, why ads are shoved in our faces constantly, why the constant updates are anti-consumer. An enthusiast audience will always be more critical of such practices that the larger casual crowd easily ignores.

Last time I went to mcdonalds it was because of that same kid who loves phone games. He was so excited for chicken nuggets. I tried one, it was horrible. I choked down a burger that is an insult to burgers. No food enthusiast would ever recommend this, no self respecting chef would ever endorse this, and I can easily make better food at home for cheaper. But they’ve served millions, and have franchises world wide! People love it, so it must be great! It sure as fuck is not, and I certainly have the capacity to be a more discerning consumer with that just like I am with video games or any other interest.

The potential has always been there for phone games, but its far a few between that are worthwhile. Touch screens suck for controls, really limits to a few good genres, but the stores suck too for any form of support. I’m still bitter that they updated iOs and not xcom so I lost that game and couldn’t get a refund. Most good phone games are ports though, and otherwise so riddled with poor design and mtx its not worth the time. Honestly, the buggest disappointment with phones is that games could be awesome on them and they’re not.

Kids are easily entertained by all kinds of arguably crappy things. Similarly mine has access to tons of great games but will spend weird amounts of time on some janky web based crap. Its not a sign its good, he just has no taste cause he’s an inexperienced kid. I similarly wouldnt look at his choice of mismatched clothes and chicken nuggets for every possible meal and think “wow that stuff’s great!” Maturity and judgement take awhile to develop, so I dont think its bad that he does that, but roblox is still utter garbage no matter how much him and his friends love it. A lot of people love garbage - it doesn’t make it good.

So uh, does this work on PC, or is it locked to Xbox? What is the advantage here vs a non branded version?

I’m avoiding MS and Meta like the plague anyway but I’m just curious. I see VR still must be a thing but I haven’t heard of any stellar games since half life and beat saber. I’ve been waiting for price drops and forgot about it completely in the mean time.

…yup. I didn’t get far. I vaguely remember there were a bunch of other little things but that one drove it home. It was literally a tamer version of fallout 3 opening.
