I didn’t think any of those companies did any manufacturing. Are we talking about the same thing? My understanding was there was only three names in manufacturing (the ones I mentioned)
What do you mean by it would force us not to tiptoe around China?
On that note, what do you think about Trump’s policy against Huawei when he was president? I’m inclined to think it’s a good thing despite it not being something Obama (or Clinton or Biden/Harris) would do
Hmm… not bad. I only watched 5ish min, but he seems genuine - that is to say, he realizes he fucked up, not that he’ll actually change anything
More interesting, to me, as someone that had only heard about this from headlines, you can clearly see the mental illness pervasive in his community by looking at the comments and even moreso by looking at the guy’s room. Dude is someone we should pity, not hate - granted I understand influencers having massive platforms, and well influence
Still, I wish we could be more like the Palestinians and Arabs he mentions, that checked on him to see if he was ok, instead of the knee-jerk, quick to react Americans we are, that are ready to pounce on a fallen neighbor enemy and eager to find ways we’re different to further divide ourselves
I stopped clicking on android authority links after they faked a drop test to make an iPhone look good
That said, what are people using nowadays or what. I tried skiff earlier this year and then it almost immediately announced they were stopping their email service
I can’t imagine the stress if I’d had anything important I needed to transfer to another email. I mean, besides losing everything of course
Edit: relevant absolutely ridiculous, watching it again. No shame! I wonder if they ever even addressed it
Anyone know if The Finals counts as a “live service” game? It’s free to play and I think it’s fantastic - both the game and the fact it’s free.
I just don’t play games enough to justify the huge asking prices anymore. The last games I paid for were COD MW2 and Cyberpunk and I doubt I’ll ever drop $70+ for a game again, especially when there’s games like splitgate and whatnot that are free (not that I ever tried the new one. lol)
The Finals Season 3 1000%
I absolutely love the first two seasons. I haven’t enjoyed a game like this in years.
It’s a bit sweaty but I feel like it can be pretty casual (out of ranked). Like the difference between playing a casual game of soccer or basketball compared to a competitive match of either. It takes strategy, teamwork and good game sense/skills to win a match as opposed to strictly kills. Idk, it’s super cool and people should give it a shot
One difference is there was already value with having a gmail account. What’s the point of getting a Microsoft account? The only thing I can see is it makes settings set up/transfer easy between PCs and for reinstalls.
Except, if I’m reinstalling, I can’t imagine waiting to copy settings since one of those settings is probably causing a problem and I don’t want it to be automatically set for me. I also don’t use the Microsoft store so…
Does anyone else actually get value from their Microsoft account? If not, It just feels like it’s only purpose is giving them (more) access to your computer. Why would anyone want that?
I pay $4/mo, mainly for YouTube music (I’m part of a friend’s family plan).
It’s pretty convenient since you can use the background audio on an iPad as well - I don’t use it often but it’s nice when I do. And there’s no ads there it’s pretty insane seeing the level of ads when I try and use my work phone which I’m not signed into.
Also, you can make channels within your single goggle account so I made one for my mom and bro so they get no ads aswell. They have to sign in to my acct which can feel a little sketch but I trust them since they’re just using the YT app on their TVs. They stay in their own user acct. and it doesn’t affect my history or anything
Excellent comment. I’ve been playing more free to play games simply for the reason you mentioned, it’s clear those games will have developers working on them for a long time. Games like PUBG or Fortnite (hate it or love it), and more recently, The Finals (absolutely love that game) are clearly going to have dev resources available for a very long time.
That said, I never spent a dime on GTA online, even though I played that for quite a bit. It didn’t appeal to me as much for some reason. I think seeing devs adding cool things makes me want to buy a little something for all the enjoyment I’m getting - especially when it cost me nothing to start. With Rockstar (or Activision) I feel a lot of negative feelings about giving them money when it’s clear they’re trying to cut costs and maximize profits at every turn by holding features back or removing them and keeping them locked behind a paywall. The other games I mentioned let you play 100% of the game and money is more for actual bonus content that’s mostly irrelevant. It’s weirdly ironic, actually
Seriously! If I say something stupid, others are supposed to show up and educate me on why what I said is stupid! That is how public discourse is supposed to works!
Wait, why aren’t the people tired of my ignorant shit jumping to help me learn? Oh I know, that means I’m actually super smart, totally correct and fully informed. Everyone else is just being stupid and mean to me for no valid reason.
Honest feedback (for honest ppl): there are ways to ask people what they think so they’ll be inclined to reply earnestly. Starting with “pipe down” ain’t it… ya fuckin dingus. lol
Lemmy has more niche users (read: geeks/nerds) on one site than I’ve ever experienced.
It’s awesome, but man, I feel so out of my element. I thought I was a nerd on reddit but on lemmy I have like no idea what half of the users are talking about or consider normal. It’s legit fascinating, tbh. I really wish it was possible to see the demographics of users here
I mean, what did you think when you learned that the US was worried about something as basic as surgical/n95 masks during the pandemic because we simply didn’t produce any domestically?
Seems absolutely silly not to think your country should have some say in how computer processors are developed. I highly recommend the book Chip War to anyone interested in learning more.
That all said, my understanding is all chip design is dependent on design software entirely owned by US companies - so there’s that at least.
