I think a lot of people are waiting for the first Civ7 expansion pack to be released

I’m waiting for the last Civ7 expansion pack to be released.

They do make changes throughout the series, but every new game is a complete reset to a basic game so they can sell you all the DLC and expansions to make it into a full game.

I’ll pick up Civ 7 in a few years when I can get the full pack for a reasonable price. It’s the way Civ works.

I do this for a lot of games, but definitely for the Civ games. I play one generation behind because I can get the entire package for a reasonable price. And let’s be honest, I have shitloads of other games to play in the meantime. I’m not missing anything.

It’s still important to do the research though. That way you can show your boss when he pulls you in his office for gaming all morning.

And why you need to spend an extra 2 hours this afternoon to recover now.

I went one step better and didn’t even play them.

No, Civ IV has the best mods because the game was designed to support them.

Oh great. I haven’t played Humankind but the Civ games have been facing some stiff competition lately. I can’t really blame them for trying to pull in new mechanics. It’d be nice if they were good ones though.

I’m not sure I want a ‘soft reset’ in the middle of the game. The whole point is to play one civilization through to victory.

When the age transition finally comes, it’s like one game ends then another begins.

But why? If I wanted a new game, I’d go to the main menu and click “new game”. I want to keep playing my existing one! I don’t want to have to change civs half way through the game. I see that you get to keep some advantages, like your existing territory and commanders, but were people asking for this? I don’t understand the appeal of this.

I can say that the question of whether this is the best iteration yet will probably be redundant until all the expansions roll out and we see the full vision enacted.

Indeed. At least I’ll have the benefit of reading feedback from 5+ years of DLC and expansions until they bundle it all into a reasonable “complete” edition and I pick it up.

They’re not trying ro make a better user experience, squash bugs, or polish the story, they’re “extracting value” - I’d stay far away from this one folks.

This has been true of Ubisoft for many years. I’m glad they’re saying it out loud now though.

Not sure why Peglin gets all the media when Roundguard is a very similar game and is 1/3 the price. I picked it up a while ago and enjoyed it.

Holy crap they finished it back in Feb! I bought it a decade ago now and it’s just been hanging out in my library since then.

I haven’t bought anything. We’ve still got another week to go though, so I might pick up something. I’m a patient gamer so I’m still waiting for Cyberpunk and expansion to come down in price. Otherwise there isn’t a whole lot that interests me right now.

I’m mostly waiting on updates for a few games I already own: Balatro is getting a big update in the new year, Enshrouded, Against the Storm, and Timberborn. I should get back in to BG3 too. I bought it on release and put 20 hours in and then just… stopped playing.

Rimworld: 1000 hours
7 Days to die: 500 hours
Valheim: 350 hours
Against the Storm: 300 hours
Skyrim: 275 hours

As of now, Star Citizen has raised $769,261,551. Three quarters of a billion dollars.

And now they say they need to fire the QA department to “laser focus” to meet the deadlines of the release. That’s when you need QA the most. Otherwise that release is going to be a fucking mess.

I call bullshit. This is a money saving decision, which means they’ve blown through their $760 million dollar bank account. Insane.

Oh, multiplayer competitive? No thanks. I have no interest in that at all.

Lemmy is very left-leaning, and you complained about “modern identity politics” from having a female lead in a video game. You shouldn’t be surprised at all.

You don’t play female characters because you’re a supporter of strong heroic women and want to embody one. You do it because you want to look at a female character on your screen. This really isn’t the flex you think it is.

It’s so easy to pick out the bigots when you say “women can do things too” and they lose their mind and start ranting about “modern identity politics”.

Yep, time zones. Some places are in 2025 already and the US is stuck in 1940.

And I’m sure a lot of the people he denied health care to in the name of profit had children too.

Mine are

  1. Enshrouded - Got just over 100 hours in the past month
  2. Against the Storm - been playing on and off over the last year as new patches/DLC release.
  3. God of Weapons - not a huge fan of this type of game but it’s fun for short bursts between other things

It must be regional. They’re still available here in Canada.

Not an adjustment for me. I haven’t bought a Civ game within 5 years of release for a very long time. It’s far better to wait for the expansions and DLC to get bundled into the Complete Edition. Denuvo will probably be removed by then.

What people want is TES 6. Remastering Skyrim is what they’re doing in the meantime to earn some money to stay afloat while they waste everyone’s time.

Who cares? I exclude genres I don’t like too. Play the games you like. I’m sure those poor indie games will do just fine despite a guy on Lemmy saying he excludes them.

Their business model is developing a game. Not completing a game and releasing it, just eternal development. And honestly it’s working really well for them. Why change when people keep handing them money?

open world RPG based on Norse mythology.

Slavic mythology, not Norse.

When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

We’ve known what Bethesda is for years.

Cool. I’ve never heard of this. I tossed the devs a few bucks by picking it up on Steam.
