There’s a ‘but the bad things’ buried in the middle, desperately wanting a line break.

Thanks for the feedback, i have fixed it

I admit I haven’t tried very many, but I think you can launch any steam app “normally” without steam running. If you can find the executable or startup script, you can just point a shortcut to it. Some games will need Steam Services to run, but it’s not blocked or anything.

I think i mentioned this,? but there are Steam games that dont let you use it without having the client open, but yeah there are Steam games that work without the client.

I think you switched to cons without saying.

Its there but i didnt have a line break.

i kinda agree:
but its still possible to pirate some Steam games without the Steam Client,
and some still require it.

i think personally Steam’s/Valve’s dominance is really good here’s why:

  • Improving Linux gaming, improving Wine and DXVK for gaming,so you dont rely on Microsoft for your OS.
  • Great client(i like the: inbuilt Chromium based browser,Community features)
  • Not so awful and maybe simple DRM methods(eg, needing the Steam client doesnt tank the performance that much, compared to something like denuvo which i think makes modding impossible, needs consistent internet connection, and tanks the game’s fps alot )
  • I can buy with cash giftcard to buy games(I wish GOG had that)
  • Workshop for modding on supported games.(ik some games have workshop and dont let you mod everything)
  • Makes/has good games(Half-life 2 is the best game i ever played)

but the bad things:

  • Steam Client is still 32 bit and Steam doesnt target ARM(E,G. For like M1+ macs, those need rosetta )
  • third party clients arent a option
  • You dont own anything you buy on Steam.
  • Having the Steam client open at all times(ik not all games have this, but i assume CEF based Steam will lower the performance like slightly)
  • TF2 neglect
  • lootboxes/battle pass in some games(i am aware Valve was the first company to have a battle pass and fortnite popularized it)
alright thats what i think of the Good and bad of Valve/Steam

Edit: Fixed Paragraph break.

me since dec 2024, i usually use Linux for gaming(thank you Valve for Proton) but i may still spin up a Windows VM to flash roms to my Samsung Phone(grimlers fork sucks).
apps are also pretty alright on Linux but would love this area see some improvement.
i also feel like FOSS works the best on Linux cause duh Linux itself is foss, incl apps.

Could be, but it happened before this a day ago (as of writing this)

Can you atleast still put a Nvme for more storage?

Will this make steam x86_64 (instead of x86)???

I wish this existed but for transferring games from one platform to another (e.g, a game bought in PSN works on Steam if its sold there)

i wonder if they open source it after the end of Nova Launcher ngl

How about games that dont run a anticheat deep into the kernel or Server side anticheat.
Like SCP:SL(server side) and TF2 (i think both Client and Server side) does this

I wonder if someone spent even more on some random Gacha Game.

Never knew that but sounds pretty cool also great for preservation.

I Like GOG But i find Steam its Easier to buy games(you can find giftcards).I perfer to buy all my games from one place and i like their client more(like the built in web browser,Chatting and groups features,Communities, etc)
the only think i dont like about Steam client really is its UI and UX and its a memory hog thanks to CEF
What i like about GOG you dont need its client or any client open while in game(like you can choose a client that is written in GTK),you actually own the game and DRM-FREE.

And Directx 12(VKD3D) as of writing this has issues on Nvidia

agreed but for me i kinda didnt like the racism things,i am not easily offended, i gave up on the game after the religious joke.
atleast i “Tried” Postal 2 and didnt buy it

i only got these free games just to get Postal 2 and now i have a bunch of nsfw games in my gog library :P
had to use a vpn to UK

What if the game is hard to pirate or it has a demo.

Kinda sad because I usually rely on steam reviews to see how bad or good a game is.

It still exist today with the Conscientious Objector and the Flair.
Sprays also still exist but custom servers only.

I wonder about the development process how hard it was to Get it on Wii U (cause publishing to console isn’t easy)

Since I have VRR on my monitor I won’t be needing this, but thanks.

Oh thank you, But most games have a fps limit right and i see this is more effective? And I have VRR on my monitor.

Imma just stick to MangoHud cause it works with Games Outside of Steam.
