He’s cap-tied? That’s the first time I’ve heard about this. What happened?

What if he starts playing for Spain?

Yeah Morata is warming that bench for sure

Thanks, I’ll go read some more. I’m trying to move away from WhatsApp and wanted to run Signal in my main profile on Graphene. I hope I can use it without FCM there.

Would you happen to know what WhatsApp and Signal use? I believe FOSS apps from F-droid do not use Google’s notification service

Essentially, the apps which don’t use Google FCM service are not affected (from what I understand?). I assume that there isn’t a problem on the client-side and this exploit works purely because Google stores these notifications.

If I were to install MicroG in a different profile would the rest of my push notifications be compromised too?

Does Graphene OS maintain the privacy of notifications from being recorded by third parties?
I remember reading an article where the government and Google were able to read notifications and record them from every android device. I wonder if Graphene might have patched this problem, and if not, do they have any plans to do so? Thanks!

Madrid still doesn’t have a striker. Repeat from last year? I personally think City is a better team whilst Madrid have improved from last time

I keep waiting for KernelSU support for more devices

I’m interested; are you saying you don’t care about privacy from your android device?

Being root gives you access to the firewall and better access to controls over apps. Although maybe you don’t care

Privacy? I am astonished that you’re seriously asking this.

Is this the point about unlocking the bootloader being risky, or did you just pour the Google/Samsung advertisement ethos down your throat?

Android is Linux with a patched kernel and a different userland. Are you saying you never use root on Linux?

Pixel A series for $300 is a good deal, or just deal with the OnePlus models. I don’t use my mobile much anyway

How about they bring it to the US already? They’d be breaking their profit ceiling in a heartbeat.

With that said, if they do an FP4 and release it close to EoL, they’re not getting my money.

FP5 is not available in the US, and FP4 has about 2-3 years of support left.

Pixel is the only real option, at least till Google does the embrace and extinguish strategy and fucks the custom ROM community over.

OnePlus devices no longer have much custom ROM support because they took away the unbrick tool.

I think Nokia devices don’t have an unbrick tool either.

Motorola devices can be unlocked but not much custom ROM support (at least, from Lineage OS) either.

Which options are you talking about? I can hardly see anything other than the Pixels for devices released in 2023 in terms of custom ROMs. At this rate, I’m OK with having to manually patch security updates with Magisk every time and sideload (need to figure out how I will back up my device, do not fancy a factory reset every time)

Edit: would you happen to know how one can apply security patches with KernelSU?

I don’t purchase mobiles from carriers. I still don’t have choices though. I’m sure there’s plenty of people like me.

Most phones from one year back, yes. If you want something from 2023 it better be an FP5 or a Pixel

The bigger problem is the community dying from OEMs not releasing their tools/locking their bootloaders (fuck you Samsung???)

Yes, Sony mobiles are indeed available, however, I lament their pricing and their share of the market everyday. Also, very little custom ROM support.

Technically, if I had a way to install security patches alongside KernelSU, I’d just wait for a year and purchase the newest OnePlus with a kernel over 5.10. But I don’t know if that is possible.

Xiaomi mobiles are not available in the US. Neither are Huawei or Oppo. Our options are Google, Samsung, OnePlus and maybe some other phones.

Only supported till 2026 though. They brought it here a bit too late

Which mobile are you talking about when you say “the latest model”?

The problem as I see it, is the lack of discourse around the situation on Android forums (granted, I haven’t looked that far into obscure sources/boards). The vast majority just seems OK about relying on Google for this. What are we going to do when Google shuts us out?

The EU has better options, including the FP5. I’m in the US though

Which mobile released in 2023 in the US (other than the pixel) is supported by custom ROMs?
Hi everyone. I'm starting to feel a bit discouraged at this point. Other than the Google pixel, I don't seem to see any new mobile being supported by custom ROMs in the US. Samsung devices are out of the question, not much from Motorola, OnePlus decided to retract their hard-brick reversal tool, same with ASUS, and even the FP5 wasn't released here. How is everyone just satisfied with the Pixel? It seems as if the community is OK with just the Pixels being the only device they can install custom ROMs on. I don't even see much discussion in the community about this; I realise that mobiles like the Murena 2 exist, and someone can spend a lot of money to purchase the Librem mobiles, but let's be honest here: do you really expect Google to allow people to keep unlocking their bootloader forever? What happens when one day Google decides to not let people create custom ROMs for their devices? Will the custom ROM community just die? Are there no alternatives for those of us in the US? Sorry for my phrasing, I just realised that I don't have a real choice in the matter with how mobiles are these days.

I’m very interested! Which device is this and how did you get to this stage? I believe GKI only really exists for devices running kernel version 5.10 and over. My device is running 5.4 so I can’t use this. I hope that in a couple of years KernelSU will become mainstream and I can reap the benefits of SafetyNet without having to deal with Magisk + Zygisk + LSPosed and a bunch of other stuff.

Anybody here in the US who got their hands on the FP5? It’s awful that they didn’t release it here

Thanks, I found this thread a few days back. Great to know it is being worked on: hope to see support for the N30 too at some point!

Pixels are certainly a good idea, but I’m afraid of trusting Google that much. The community is focussing so much of their efforts into a company that is known to shut things down/make things harder for FOSS

I see. I thought it could only really disable them at best. Thanks, that helps.

Do the newer OnePLus devices like OnePlus 11 support OEM unlocking?
I do not plan to purchase it from a carrier. Yes, I'm in the US. Is this even possible?

How do in-store battery replacements work for Pixels?
Is there anything I need to keep in mind? Does running Graphene void any warranty and cause them to deny my request? How much do I need to pay in the US? Thanks!

Why don’t I see the newer phones in the Lineage OS list?
I'm starting to see not as many newer mobiles in the Lineage OS list as I used to. The US is a lost cause with companies not allowing their bootloader to be unlocked, but even the Chinese companies like OPPO, Vivo, OnePlus etc don't seem to have their recent devices on the Lineage OS supported list. Am I imagining this, or is the Custom ROM market reducing to just Pixel phones?

New devices in the US that have an unlockable bootloader and custom ROM support?
One Plus is the newer exclusion in the list of reducing number of new devices in the US which can run Custom ROMs. Right now, I only really know of the Pixel and the Nothing line of mobiles which can run Custom ROMs. Americans, what are our options?

What are some ways in which GrapheneOS utilises the Pixel’s hardware AI capabilities?
I feel that it would be a waste if the Pixel's hardware capabilities related to AI aren't being utilised in a privacy-conscious way. Are there features/avenues in GrapheneOS to make use of this?
