For what it’s worth, other Start menu replacements like Start11 and Open Shell’s menu aren’t on the list. This might genuinely be a compatibility-related blocker given that iCloud, EaseUS and certain drivers are also on the list.

tbh I’ve yet to see a KeePass-based password manager that’s not clunky-feeling. Strongbox is probably the best one for that but that’s for the Apple ecosystem.

I immediately deleted my account after realising the free tier doesn’t allow bundling the TOTP with the password. Instead I use KeePassXC on my computer and KeePass2Android + Enpass on my phone.

There’s a theory going round that the PS5 is going to be that “breakout box” for a PC-based PSVR2 setup. I’m not sure if Sony wants to spend that much on getting people out of their ecosystem when it’d be better to have their own solution, or as Oculus had done, let Valve port Steam Link to their platform. This might be the most likely situation, as it gives access to SteamVR in a way that doesn’t require as much R&D from Sony.

That being said, I would love to have a native PCVR setup (even if it means piping a video through a wire as Oculus does to maintain compatibility with even NVIDIA) and if Sony goes that way somehow, I’ll be happy.

It might be “just USB-C” but it also does things outside of the standard. It asks for a set amount of power not part of the USB-C standard, actually it might have implemented VirtualLink which is considered a dead standard. Not to mention that NVIDIA GPUs also stopped having a USB-C port.

iVRy, who has hacked the PSVR1 to support PC, is in the process of hacking the PSVR2 and even they state that Sony’s solution might be just streaming to the headset because of the issues with implementing direct USB-C support. There might be wired streaming (similar to Oculus), though it’s still early days.

I get the hype (I have the headset myself) but I’m definitely going to temper my expectations until Sony releases more info on it.

I’d imagine it’ll work through something like Steam Link like the Quest line of headsets do. Which is still nice, but that means for me trying to invest in networking gear that may or may not work. 😩

(and I’ve tried powerline, I’ve gone through three of those things, they all have a habit of disconnecting unless I ping my router. Someone on Twitter suggested that I rewire my entire house as if I can afford to do that. 😐)

I am going to temper my expectations a bit, since the article is specifically singling out their clause on accessing additional games. But at the same time, I am huffing the hopium since Sony has upstreamed PlayStation controller drivers to the Linux kernel, so they might be receptive to supporting SteamVR, Steam Link or something equivalent, if possible. (No, before you ask, I’m not expecting Linux support on PSVR2.)

I think the new games are, Hit the Road was LucasArts and was part of Disney’s publisher sale on Steam a little while back.

Same thing is happening with Misskey. A lot of interesting features there that don’t federate. Wonder how Bluesky is going to handle that in their protocol.

Sidenote: a lot of confidently incorrect people in the comments for this (not you). Not really getting people on-board with fedi, are they?

I have been blindsided before, but honestly right now I’m in the same boat on that. Disney isn’t interested in app deployment or distribution, just to advertise their products to kids.

And even so, my copy of SAMHTR is still on my Steam account and the files are there to use with ScummVM (which I believe LucasArts actually did when the game hit Steam)

Yup. There’s a few old re-releases there, not sure if they’re patched up for modern Windows though. Actually, they had a publisher sale on Steam quite recently.

And not just that, when they acquired LucasFilm they not only got a backlog of old Star Wars and Indiana Jones games already on Steam, but also Sam & Max Hit the Road. AFAIK Sam & Max is an independent franchise but LucasArts and thus Disney own the rights to Hit the Road.

I got Subnautica for free twice (PlayStation and Epic), I should really look at giving it a proper try. I have the feeling it’d be really good in VR, played No Man’s Sky in VR recently and I immediately loved it while on flatscreen it didn’t click with me as much.

I don’t protest it, it’s just funny to see the companies act hypocritical.

I didn’t say I was certain - just pretty sure :P That was based on what was known last year, dunno if news on that have been updated yet. I’m bound to see it on Lemmy when it does. Thank for letting me know though.

Opinions on generative AI aside, I’m pretty sure the legal consensus on the copyright surrounding it means whatever was generated is basically in the public domain, unless they’ve edited it in a way that’s transformative.

They actually used cracked versions of their games years ago. Rockstar were also caught red-handed using cracked EXEs.

I’m not enough of a Linux user to inconvenience myself so I’m just using Steam. The cloud sync is the killer feature for me - if GOG had something like it even if I have to pay extra, I’d so use it.

They say this but have some of their games on GOG lol

My experience with Heroic has been… okay. I think the big issue is that a lot of tools are built with Steam in mind and not Heroic, which unintentionally adds friction.

Sony also did this same rollout in the same time-span. PS4 was released in 2013, Pro version was in 2016. It’s been about three years since the PS5 was released so it checks out.

I liked the gameplay and environmental of Watch_Dogs 2 more (edit: on the latter, it’s about how lively WD2 felt compared to 2077), but Cyberpunk 2077 is still solid. As someone else said, there’s replay value to the different routes you can take. I’d definitely wait for the base game to go on sale though. I got mine for £25 and I think that’s an alright price for it.

If I recall, VR support in Linux is quite spotty as well. I can trust that Valve will invest some time into getting this to work, but a lot of the PC gaming market share is still Windows so it makes sense to support them first.

Yup. But in any case, that reputation sticks. The point was, fix the major issues with the game then go do the press. NMS and Cyberpunk have both done that.

Seems like the opposite of what happened to No Man’s Sky, initially praised at first then started getting complaints, whereas NMS was the opposite - a game that had major issues on launch (unhelped by overpromising) but built itself up to be a solid game afterwards.

Bethesda should take a page from Hello Games’ book and fix the issues prevalent in the game then do the press stuff later. That also worked for Cyberpunk 2077, FWIW.

And even when they say tab hibernation does exist, they’re calling OP a dumbass. If I did that to my friends who want to try Linux, they’d be back on Windows in a heartbeat.

I’ve also been shouted at here for telling a user asking about Vivaldi that the culture here does not like Chromium-based browsers like it and they likely won’t get their answer here. It’s like they wanted me to shut up and not criticise their behaviour.

I think the main issue is the people here suggesting and evangelising Firefox not really listening to those who aren’t, which frustrates the other person. I think I fell into this with the fediverse, in the early days of Elon fucking up Twitter. There are perfectly valid reasons to not use Firefox right now. Maybe one browser or other works better for them, or has that one killer feature they can’t live without. Firefox has that for some of us, too. Or Firefox has some weird quirk or bug that other browsers don’t.

I personally use Firefox and Vivaldi. Vivaldi has tab tiling which is great for when I’m in the zone adding music to MusicBrainz or RYM, and it’s not too clunky either. Tile Tabs WE doesn’t cut it for me. For casual browsing, vertical tabs is nice and I use Firefox + Sidebery for that, which is better than Vivaldi’s vertical tab implementation.

Those two aren’t bad, IMO. It lines up with what people think their principles should be.

You want something to make you worry? They’re integrating Fakespot, an AI-based review scanner that Mozilla acquired a while back, into Firefox. Never mind that industries are having problems auto-scanning content for AI generated prose…

Wish this got upvoted more tbh. The devs of Pulse Browser are trying to make an environment where making a Firefox fork would be easier, but it’s not like Chromium where the engine could be easily embedded. I’ve also heard Second Life had to move to Chromium for their embedded browser after using Gecko and having problems with it.

Yeah it is and I’m aware, I even asked it that specifically for that cutoff. Also thought Boris Johnson was the prime minister lol

Messed with it a bit and it still thought Queen Elizabeth was the current reigning monarch in the UK.

I never noticed that for years. Now I can’t unread that word anymore. Thanks.

I like buying CDs so I have a backup in case things go very wrong. The fact that a CD is the same as a digital file but physical plays to that advantage.

That being said I think I’m thinking on starting my own vinyl collection now - got the bug thanks to buying a 7-inch from Grouper. CD and vinyl have completely different but still valid use cases.

Hi-Fi Rush mixes DMC-style combat with rhythm gameplay, and has a great soundtrack and charming personality to match.

Given the amount of times Rayman 2 has been ported as a “new” game every time a new console was released I’m very surprised UbiSoft haven’t remastered it for PC yet.

Had this happen searching for Argos (a large British retailer). The sponsored result sent me to a survey scam that cloned the Argos site, quickly reported it.

Probably, but between the disabling of userChrome.css (even if you can enable it via about:config) and a possible conflict between other addons I use, I’m comfy with my Pulse setup.

I explain it in another comment, tl;dr: have to edit userChrome.css to give it a more streamlined look (and Mozilla calls that feature “legacy” in about:config since v69 which kinda worries me about that feature’s removal) and I’m not sure if some extensions might conflict (Would it have issues with Simple Tab Groups). Pulse does it natively and really well, so I’m happy with it.

I used Tree Style Tab but I didn’t like having to change the userChrome.css to make it streamlined (i.e. hiding the tab bar), while Pulse does it natively and really well. I do have an extension for tab groups that imitates Vivaldi’s tab workspaces though, not sure if those will conflict. (If you’re curious, it’s called Simple Tab Groups.)

Edit: There’s also the issue of Mozilla calling the editable userChrome.css a legacy feature, which kinda worries me about its possible removal. Pulse having vertical tabs as a native feature skips that.
