I do have a few issues with it:

  • the grippy texture underneath is a bit much. It holds on to grime really well and it’s a challenge to clean. I’m not sure we actually needed a grippy texture at all to begin with, but if we did, I wish ease of cleaning had been a bigger concern.
  • the buttons under the controller and L2/R2 buttons are a tad too easy to press by accident.
  • The L2/R2 buttons are not ergonomic enough. I can tell the intent is that I put my indexes on L1/R1 and middle fingers on L2/R2. But it’s uncomfortable to do that due to how much the L2/R2 buttons stick out. My hands just aren’t that big, and even if they were, I just don’t think it’s a very natural position to outstretch both fingers like that. It puts too much strain on the ring and little fingers. So instead I only use my indexes for both triggers. Thankfully games rarely need you to do both at once. I wish L2/R2 were lower instead of trying to be flush with L1/R1.
  • I don’t play car games, so the gradual triggers are nothing but a negative to me. They reduce my effectiveness when parrying in Elden Ring, for instance. I know most people do care about car games though so I don’t know what they could have done about that without worsening reviews…

I bought one for that purpose. Realized it’s too much, the angles are so large I can’t hold it for long periods without hurting my wrists, and it’s really heavy, compounding the wrist pain issue. Also the triggers have way too much resistance.

Plus the battery life is really short.

I ended up buying an 8bitdo Ultimate. Much better.

We hadn’t heard of the game. It’s not that it won’t sell, it’s that it wasn’t advertised before now.

Not really on topic but wait just a gosh darn second.

This person is playing and reviewing (what might be called) the prettiest, most demanding game ever made, and they’re doing it on a Steam Deck, on Low?

But still, the visuals are the main thing they praise about it?

I’m a bit surprised? Confused? Anyway that’s a little weird.

Would that generally be enough to fix launch bugs? Genuine question; I almost always buy games when they’re over a year old.

I expected it to be popular in China, but I didn’t expect the ratio to be that skewed. Haven’t we been hearing about this game for years?

I don’t often buy new releases, especially not if I have a big backlog, but I’ve been interested in this game for quite a while.

Hey not just the EU. There are smaller initiatives in other countries, including Canada.

Elden Ring with the Seamless Coop mod looks like great fun if you enjoy that type of game. I’ve wanted to try it for a long time.

“Multiple nested menus to perform basic functions like equipping something”

Damn no need to roast Elden Ring alive like that! :D

These days Nintendo doesn’t really try to compete on performance. The Wii, for instance, was unapologetically what it was. You played relatively low-poly, low-res, low-texture games on it, but you played them, because they were fun and imaginative.

That’s their main thing. Performance comes, like, 4th.

However, this time, they got burned on their own games. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom had pretty obvious performance issues that even the normiest of normies could notice, for instance. And my memory is short but I think that wasn’t the only first-party game where performance was a challenge.

I think this time they’ll care about performance more than last time. It’s not like they’ve never done it. The really old consoles from the 20th century were competitive on performance, right?

I like it. They could have easily cited the needs of a mobile console and wanting to dedicate every last cubic centimeter to cooling and battery as an excuse to make the next console digital only.

I’m glad they didn’t.

Isn’t the new device based on Nvidia Ampere?

I don’t really know how it’s going to turn out but I’m somewhat optimistic.

It sucks, but it could’ve been worse. They could just have killed it.

Nova being a mature product, maybe it’ll be okay third way. Hopefully.
