I find this shit hilarious.

Who the fuck is pirating a damn thing by screen shotting their phone? Can I smash the buttons 30 times a second in order to be able to reproduce the movie? No, absolutely not.

In reality, people will be taking a screen shot in order to share something, giving free publicity to Netflix. So what actually happens is that I torrent the thing I want to make a gif of, or share a frame from, thereby leaving an incentive for the people who provide the torrents to keep on keeping on.

I reckon it’s been a good ten years since I had a data cap on my home internet. These days I pay £30 a month for unlimited 900mbps fibre and it’s wonderful.

Yeah, that’s the attitude I take with this shit now.

I play a stupid colour matching game on my iPad that’s almost scientifically designed to try and rinse money out of users’ pockets, but I’ve got to a place where I see the offers and last chances and know that even if I did pay for a few boosts or power ups, it’s not going to bring me enlightenment.

That’s not to shit on OP’s point, mind. Microtransactions really are a menace, preying on those who are least able to ignore them, who are often least able to afford them. But it’s a world we’ve kinda made by not wanting to pay for games.

That said, how much is WoW these days? Paying a monthly fee AND getting bombarded with ways to spend more money is straight-up cunty.

I had literally no idea what it was when I played it, so it really span me out. My wife played it first and recommended it to me.

And yeah, it’s a trip.

Trouble is, companies with shareholders have to chase the profits, and they have to protect them at all costs, which leads to a situation where the AAA companies feel like they have to lock their shit down tight. And that ain’t compatible with 100% of their markets.

It’s become an arms race because they can’t just accept that people will pirate their games regardless of what they put in place. But the more they put in place, the more likely people are to want to pirate.

Yeah, after this I had the Vario III, which was an HTC Kaiser. The phone was great (if somewhat underpowered), but WinMob was still clunky and shit.

My next phone after that was an iPhone 3GS, and I’ve been iPhone ever since.

“A guy” Give Mr Mobile his due! The man’s a legend!

A friend of mine had the Droid.

At that point I was rocking the T Mobile Vario, which I believe was an HTC. It was, sadly, dog shit. Windows Mobile was not a fun time.

Mario Kart DS.

Shit’s a masterpiece.

Opencore Legacy Patcher is your friend. My old 2015 MBP ran Sonoma perfectly. My 2014 mini runs it perfectly.

Yeah, it was disappointing to say the least to see people on YouTube showing how to install 18.1 on an S4, then discovering that this one can only go up to 14.1. But that’s still two Android versions more recent than the official support, so I’ll take it.

Yeah, it might be able to go newer, but as I said, Android is an alien land to me, and what I seemed to find on XDA Forums was that this particular model of S4* is only supported as far as 14.1. There’s so much info out there that it’s too easy to get overwhelmed, so I got to a point that enabled what I needed and left it. Willing to accept any further advice, mind.

*Turns out there are several variations of S4, ranging from the I9500 Exynos processor one I have here, to several different versions running Qualcomm silicon.

I was given an old Samsung S4 for use at work recently, for scanning QR codes with primarily.

I’m an iPhone guy, so am lost with Android, but the version it was locked to was ancient and massively out of date. I did a bit of research, and after a few hours of trial and error I’ve got it running on Lineage 14.1, with a few useful apps downloaded from F-Droid. It’s gone from an old hunk of trash to a perfectly usable device that won’t win any awards for its benchmarks, but is spot on for what i need it to do.

Hey, as someone who uses an emulator to play Switch games on my Mac, I’m all for their hardware being sub-par.
