Almost overnight, the Counter-Strike 2 skins market has fractured, crashing down by $2 billion in value thanks to a change by Valve.

Maybe, it’s just dumb ol’ me, but I don’t think market for virtual shit should not be worth this much at all.

That’s probably one of the reasons why this was done. It removed the chokehold of scarcity by making everything attainable (you can now “trade up” from common to best items without having any RNG involved)

I must say that is a welcome change. Fuck artificial scarcity.

Interesting effect of this seems to be a brief rush to buy up skins, inflating their prices as a result. My inventory of cheap junk saw a massive spike in market pricing as the price of knives flatlined

Reminds me of the “crate depression” in TF2 where the hats became worthless overnight but the crates became worth more than a AAA steam game

Good. Now bring them all the way to 0.

Couldn’t you do that before or was the Covert level just excluded from doing a trade-up? I never had enough of that level to have even tried, so IDK.

And let’s be honest here: With gloves and knives commonly being placed on the market for literally a thousand dollars or more, only a small percentage of players would actually be making money from the equally small number of players that can afford to pay that much for a bullshit video game skin.

This change is actually good for the majority of players.

Not until now. Covert was the highest level item you could receive in a trad-up contract. Knives and gloves have been exclusive to the cases.
