You don't have to let Google scoop up all of your location data.

Apart from the question “why not just OsmAnd?”

I must say I am impressed with Organic maps already. OsmAnd, and Google maps for that matter, are much slower.

Organic maps can’t find a business that’s 15 miles from my location and has been there for years, but it can find another branch that’s 90 miles away. Not a useful option.

If you notice things are missing, feel free to contribute to OpenStreetMap. For example, by using StreetComplete. If you add the map details that are missing, it makes the map more useful for everyone.

I think you can even do it in Organic Maps itself? In OsmAnd definitely.

OpenStreetMap data is exactly as good as volunteers made it.

That’d be something I’d do if this were an occasional issue, but for just this single company OpenStreetMap shows only 4 of the 20+ nationwide locations. I try OpenStreetMap every year or so and still find that it isn’t useful for me as it stands.

It pulls its data from open street map I believe, so it’s as useful as the community is capable of making it.

The name of a side street I know was missing so I made an account on open street map and added the name, soon after when they consolidated the data it’s there now.

This is both a good and bad thing. It means some stuff is not always up to date, but at the same time, for areas where people maintain it, I can see such fine detail that I can use the map to find out where there are things as small as trash cans, benches, and bike racks.

I still have to find an OSM interface with proper local search for the web, not an app

This is a cool new app that I use to supplement OSM with address metadata that Google has without installing Google Maps: https://sr.ht/~amolith/adresilo/
