I wholeheartedly recommend that you do if you’re at all into the RPG genre. To me, it ticks every single box of a great game and specifically a great RPG
Great story yet freedom of choice? ✅️
A main character you get to shape into basically whatever you want, countless combinations and choices available? ✅️
Believable NPCs wonderfully voice acted that contribute to not just the story but makes the entire thing more real and engaging? ✅️
Several choices of how to complete quests to best fit the ethos and personality of the kind of character you choose to play as? ✅️
Gorgeous yet not distracting graphics even on low settings? ✅️
A thriving and expanding modding community allowing you to easily further customize your experience at no cost except your time? ✅️
Solid game mechanics and UI, including when playing with a controller? ✅️
If you buy just one game this year, I’d personally recommend you go with BG3. It’s the best game that’s come out in several years IMO, maybe even the best since Skyrim came out 12 years ago!
And let’s not forget: it’s full AAA price, but it feels like a finished game without hidden microtransactions for cosmetics or DLC that actually should have been part of the main game. Mod support is also free which is apparently not a given. Looking at you Bethesda with the starfield rumors.
Gameplay is modeled to be enjoyable instead of a time sink just to get you to play more.
You can play co-op with friends if you want but it doesn’t force you to always be online.
Actually, the more I think about, it’s sad how low a bar we have set for new games these days. And the worst part is, most new games can’t even pass this…
Say what?? They’re gonna charge people for using mods?? I guess that’s ONE way to make sure a PC RPG, especially one from a developer notorious for making games that start out super buggy, doesn’t live up to anywhere near it’s full potential 🤦🤬
I don’t think they’ll charge for all mods, but like every game have mods that are for sale. Like the horse armor dlc from Skyrim lol.
Have you played Divinity Original Sin 2? How does it compare?
It manages to surpass OS2 in every way. OS2 is fantastic but BG3 blows it out of the water
Not yet, but based on it being by Larian too and just generally hearing a lot of great things about it, I’m definitely going to!
Very important for me - it’s not Bethesda style role playing where you have a couple of quest lines that can differ and where you have mostly good, bad or crazy dialogue options. There is real choice! The game reacts to whether or not you did some quests early on, there can be fully different outcomes depending on your choices. The roleplaying goes deep enough to feel like something you can explore instead of just being a mechanic to play voiceline 1, 2 or 3 before continuing on the same path.
Agree.
