A gaming community free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it’s price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don’t meet the system requirements, or just haven’t had the time to keep up with the latest releases.
I’m happy to see you finished all the Halo games. The Bungie games (CE-Reach) are some of my all-time favourite games and I love to see others enjoy them too. It’s too bad it didn’t gel with you as much as it did with me but I’m still glad you had fun with the series regardless.
Writing this out made me super nostalgic for Reach actually. Probably my best ever gaming moments were playing Reach multiplayer with a friend of mine I haven’t seen in probably close to a decade now. I’d give anything to go back to prime Reach multiplayer again with him. That’s the trouble with multiplayer games, it’s hard to revisit years later. I also used to play a ton of Battlefield 4 multiplayer one time but again, can’t really replay that these days. I stick to single player games now which does have the nice side effect of future replayability. I’ve got a super strong sense of nostalgia for Batman Arkham City and thankfully for that game I can actually go back and revisit it. But multiplayer games I can’t.
I had a bit of a tangent explaining my reasoning towards the series but it’s honestly not that important in the grand scheme of things. I had fun and the minutiae of “why this much and not more” would simply end up as me rambling.
Is Bf4 one of the games that didn’t manage to stay alive long term? I know Bf2 and some other titles (Bf3, I think?) are still played but I don’t do much multiplayer these days so I’m not really up to date with what’s still available.
To be fair it has been a while since I’ve tried BF4, but last time I gave it a shot I was waiting for a match forever and when I finally did connect the lobby was mostly empty. It’s possible I got unlucky though. I don’t have my Xbox anymore so I’d have to get it on steam and I’m pretty sure the anti-cheat doesn’t work with Linux but I could be wrong. Maybe I’ll look into it again at some point. I do miss playing it.
Oh right, I heard about the Linux situation - it’s unfortunate. I never actually played 4 so most of my info comes from osmosis pretty much. The last thing I heard about it was that some modes on the PC version are still active however that was a year or so ago and things might have changed by now.
The thing is, I didn’t even think about the official servers when I asked this question. My mind automatically went to PC version with potential unofficial ones, which now that I think about it might not even be a thing for Bf4.
