There's no shortage of Wear OS watches on the market, but what if you want a watch with a camera? We've got some good news.

Why the fuck would I want a camera in my watch? Am I a spy? Like, that’s literally the only use I can think of, covertly photographing documents.

Am I a spy?

Not watch-related but Google-related and this video lives rent free in my head at, pretty much, all hours: https://youtu.be/6PY8C1KmNwM

Very niche use case, but maybe if you don’t want to carry your phone with you and still want to make photos?

Don’t think many people will want to do this, so it’s still stupid, but maybe?

Imagine if we had ever discovered a device for doing that. 📷

I mean, it’s a lot more practical to wear a watch then carrying a camera everywhere. Not saying the watch is a good idea, it really isn’t, haha.

And brain implants trump every other device. Would you?

Is that meant to be a fair comparison?

Thats not niche so much as made up. If you wnt to take photos you take your photography device. I understand the same could have been said about digital cameras and phones twenty years ago but that was merging techs, this is sparating them.

The watch will have a significantly worse camera so it would not make sense to take it specifically for photos.

If you don’t want to carry your phone, I don’t think you would want to carry a often heavier photography device. Besides that most people don’t have a specific photography device.

This is my point, if you want to take a picture bring your photography device. Be it your phone or camera.

If you want to take a picture and decide to leave one or both of your photography devices at home - you dont want to take a picture.

A watch with a camera is going to remain inferior because it is a smaller form factor fulfilling a very similar role. Anything that could be done to make the watch camera better could be better utilised in a phone. Making the case that if you wanted to take a picture, you would bring the more capable device.

ah I see what you mean now. Yea I agree mostly, but sometimes I don’t go out with my phone for a reason (if I’m running or just don’t want to think about my phone) and sometimes I then see something I want to photograph. As I said, very niche, but might be slightly useful for some people.

My guess is for the streamers who want to wander about streets or in other public places. Then they don’t have to have a snatchable camera in their hands, as the watch is at least tethered to their arm.

Okay that’s fair. I don’t live in a city so I didn’t think about that, but when I visited NYC I was absolutely paranoid about having my phone out when walking around.

I’m from north Boston (the hood). Manhattan, especially Central Park and lower, is the safest I’ve ever felt in a major city. Nearby Brooklyn and Queens were the same. No one visits Staten Island. BX and Harlem aren’t for everyone.

I get that too. There’s an anonymity that’s so bizarre. I was in Manhattan and quickly realized that im just a ghost, nobody looks at you unless they’re selling something. And it’s generally OK, I could identify solo women and minorities and all sorts of people clearly feeling perfectly secure in their day to day business.

It was fascinating. Kinda overwhelming, I’ve spent my whole life in the Southeast. But interesting.

Other than the chemical clean+terrible aftershave smell everywhere, I assume it’s a fad scent post-Covid but god it made me wanna hurl sometimes it was so strong.
