Empire at War is a viable alternative while you wait for this.
I wish Empire of War had quicker AI turns. It’s my favorite one but you spend so much time waiting for AI turns to complete.
And then there’s Sins of a galactic empire mod for sins of a solar empire
So many great mods for it and now is 64 bit
