I’ve been using OLauncher for years now, it is extremely simple and lightweight but it works for me.

There is Plexus which does this, I think they have an app now which could have more recent data than the website that you could get off of F-Droid (but I’d rather just use the website anyway).

NewPipe is one of my favorite apps, it is probably better than Invidious or Piped in my opinion because you don’t have to worry about a server being rate limited.

There’s already a malware variant on Google Play (but I don’t know how long it’s been there).

Good ol’ enshittification. I’m glad that I haven’t used Google Search for a couple of years now, things serm to be getting even worse on it than other search engines. Fuck Google.

There is a similar app named Yattee, but it’s not exactly the same. It should still work well to watch videos privately, though.

For those that use the Signal messenger, Langis is just Signal without Google Play services.

The official reddit app was crazy shit when I tried it 2 years ago. Can’t imagine what it would feel like to use it now.

Oh really? I never knew that. That makes it even better in my opinion, I spend too long trying to click in a semi-correct place before I highlight text.

FlorisBoard is wonderful in my opinion, there hasn’t been a release in a while but it has a pretty good design, and some useful features like arrow keys (only left and right) that you can enable. It’s been my favorite keyboars for a couple of years now.

I loved Infinity. Shame they aren’t moving it to Lemmy, and instead they’re making it a subscription.

I’ll give you a few from F-Droid (and maybe IzzyOnDroid too):

  • Auxio is a pretty good lightweight music player
  • NewPipe is an anonymous YouTube client without ads or tracking
  • Obtanium is an app that allows you to auto-update apps from many sources like GitHub, GitLab, and F-Droid
  • Bromite (use this repo instead of the out of date F-Droid version) is a hardened version of Chromium with features like ad blocking and less spyware Those are just a couple apps, there are a ton more on F-Droid. I reccomend using the Droid-ify client because it has more default repos and better UI.

  • NewPipe has made my YouTube watching experience way better; it’s a standalone app with features like ad blocking, subscriptions, and downloading.
  • F-Droid (particularly the Droid-ify client) is an open-source app store that generally provides quality apps.
  • Obtanium has helped me stay up to date with some of my more obscure apps, which are released only on Github. Obtanium can auto-update apps from a GitHub link or similar, which makes the process way easier.
  • Auxio is a pretty good music player, it’s quite lightweight but it also looks good.

All of these are available on F-Droid, I find that many F-Droid apps provide a better or cleaner experience than Google Play apps.

+1 for Thunder, extremely fast loading times and great UI. It hasn’t crashed on me either, just some timeouts.

Plus, there are some really good F-Droid apps too, like Droid-ify (F-Droid client with smoother UI) and Obtainium (update apps automatically from a GitHub link).

There is Youtube Revanced which tries to continue an app like Vanced, but it’s a lot harder to install rhan Vanced.

For me it’s probably the ability to sideload apps, among other things. Apps like NewPipe which would never make it to the Play Store are apps that I use every day, because they are just good apps. Also, I just like the UX of my Pixel compared to an iPhone - I couldn’t live without things like a back button, and I sort of don’t like the iOS UI.
