It will also endanger those who’s life does not line up with accepted norms.

My ASUS Vivobook has a slider that blocks the camera physically. It is bright red so I can easily see it is closed.

Sure, it couldn’t hurt - The phone is restarted.

Samsung Baloney?
I just got a notice from Samsung that they have new a new Privacey policy. When I get to the policy page it is blank except for a "Accept new policy" and text saying I must accept the policy to see it. I clicked the button - then that screen closed. What?? no policy? BTW - this was not sent as a normal text and does not show up in messages.

Thanks all - It seems there are many ways to do this, or perhaps just write the document in markdown and print it that way. I mean I guess I could always install and lear TeX (again) too.

Reminder - Libra Office also works in Windows. So does Open Office.

HTML to Print anyone? [Solved Thanks!]
{Solved Thanks} Would there be any interest? header tags are used to make table of contents, anchor tags create Index entries, all the formatting tags (tables, un-numbered and numbered lists etc) do basic print formatting. All the bold/underline/italic also render to paper. Sort of like a poor man's TeX. Has anyone done this?

It’s good for making up stories and making suggestions. I worked with chatGPT on how to power up a mothballed Galaxy Class starship. We created the procedure to bring the ship from inert and vacuumed to ready for warp flight.

Money is easy, many currencies have the “Eurion constellation” which can be recognized by the copier. It will be much harder to recognise a 3d printed part to detect something that can be made into a gun.

I took MapMyDrive on a longer drive. It seems to have an issue where the app just shuts off at random times. I don’t think it is a ‘free version’ feature, and I am not sure that it is not my OS shutting it down after it is no longer on screen. Ti will be ok for trips where I am not driver and navigator at the same time (driving alone) as passenger/navigator I can re start it before to much ground is lost.

How does Nextcloud help you see a map? Or, is it only a way to get the data to your computer? If it is only the way to get the track into your computer, what turns it into a map? OpenTracks creates tracks in the phone eh?

Oh Opentracks cost $ in the playstore. oops. It’s not much tho.

Well the map is the whole point. I tried out MapMyDrive today so now the only question is can I screenshot the map it gives and get that to my computer.

I am not sure what that is, but I would like as a final product a map showing the route taken. I can’t wait for the next opportunity to drive a distance to see what “MapMyDrive” provides.

I am currently auditioning “MapMyDrive”

Google Maps is changing and will keep drive log data on the phone. I like to go on photo-drives following roads to find "Kodak moments", I also would like a map of my random rambles. I would prefer that the data for that map be locally collected on my phone but the map itself uploadable to my laptop. Does anyone have an App for that?

Because they don’t want to lose a method of tracking us wherever we show our faces. I think masks will be a fashion in the future, and they are just so comfortable.

But I would not have disabled my ad blocker in other circumstances, but YouTube is forcing me to disable it against my better judgment to be able to use the site.

If YouTube takes files from 3rd parties and simply displays them, then viruses are possible. This is more true of ads placed via ad-broker on other websites. To get ad revenue a webmaster provides a space where the ad is inserted. The ad is provided by a 3rd party who pays the ad broker for placement. Neither the webmaster nor the ad broker have any visibility into the content of the ad, which could even contain code (ads which move or present UI elements have code to make those things work)

If a YouTube ad installs a virus on my system, can I sue YouTube?

So Chinese chip makers sell more and more of the sub-parity chips, what incentive do they really have to improve?

At least when you did get an answer it might be correct, not a hallucination.

Perhaps it should be a company policy that any demand to pay by phone/text/video conf must be authenticated by the office worker hanging up and calling the appropriate company officer on a non-published phone number. The workers immediate supervisor should also be involved in anything out of the ordinary. With a well known policy that calling the company officer will never result in any trouble for the office worker.

Do you want a Butlerian Jihad? Cuz this is how you get a Butlerian Jihad!

The Klingons of Star Trek also have a saying: If you do not wish a thing heard, do not say it.

While I have an old Gmail account I do not use it. My main email account is with (not much better) Microsoft. I also have an account with Proton Mail, which will eventually be my only account.

Making AI companies pay royalties would cause them to charge for any use of their AI image generators, putting such technology beyond the reach of people who could not justify paying. The rest of us will miss out on the interesting images they might have created.

oh, silly me, I was only thinking about the surveillance of the store’s patrons. Yes being constantly on camera can go two ways - either it will slowly drive you insane, or you forget the cameras are there and those who monitor could mischaracterized what they see.

I would also play many if I found games I liked, Space Engineers and Timberborn are on my Christmas list.

For me, my choice of platform is more important than my choice of game. Luckily the game I play, Minecraft, runs fine on Linux.

And who thought the idea of a GlassHole was bad? You have a big spy-eye on your shirt. Just wait till some company mandates all employees must wear this.

If you can gesture and it does something, the camera is always on watching for the gesture.

European Friend, What would GPDR say about this? If you walked into some store and all the store employees wore this, could you ask and expect that any footage showing you visited the store would be deleted?

Might also be kinda creepy if you went into a store where you had never been before and the nearest sales associate walked up and said “Welcome In WasPentalive”.

How about Cloud (someone else’s computers) vs. Colo/Data Center (someone else’s cooling and UPS/Generators Your computers) - the cost of running a data center correctly is huge. This is not even counting the 24/7 availability of help or security on the site.

Of course, if you can get away with a 2 servers in a single rack more power to ya.

Anyone who is posting an ad for something but not paying the instance any ad-price is stealing advertising. Ads for salient things might be acceptable, like an ad for a text editor in a programming forum, but non-salient ads should be quickly deleted, no one is here to buy into a time-share, pick up on the latest deals from China, or to get the latest snake-oil.

One of their choices should have been: "This survey is exactly the reason I am going to a different browser. "

Company before COVID: “We have 32 buildings across 5 campuses in 3 cities” After Covid: “We have 32 empty buildings no one will buy from us for enough to even break even. If we sell them no we lose millions, but they just sit empty”

If you are too poor to consume the advertised items/services then the actual customers of those products/services are paying for your access.

I personally use an ad-blocker, but I only hate ads because they can be a vector for malware. P.s. I also use StartPage as my search engine of choice.

There was a local ISP that was seeing its workforce trying to unionize. So they blanked and blocked any website that mentioned the union.

Any instance where packets are treated differently due to their content violates net neutrality.
