Next time you want to bitch about everything Trump taking legal years:
My case is about 5 years old now, I have been going through the legal process the whole time I’ve been working on this. I have finally been found guilty and sentenced, and I’m going away next month.
In other news, legal insurance is about $26/mo. Arm yourself. (And it’s not just for suing people or defending criminal charges. Having a legal opinion a phone call away, or a letter written, can be life changing.)

Yes. This is exactly how capitalism is supposed to work. The corporation bows to the wants and needs of the consumer, or they risk being replaced.
And this is an even greater example, consumers telling a mega-corp to get fucked and getting results.
But don’t let me get in the way of you kids and your anti-capitalism bent, typed on a machine made possible by capitalism. If I could send every fucking one of you back to the 70s and let you get an eye full of communism, I’d deport every one of you to the USSR.
Nope, it’s the government’s mileage standards. If you make a truck with a shorter wheelbase and track, it has to hit higher gas mileage standards. Easier to make a big truck that’s allowed worse mileage.
Also, I did a brief stint selling cars in the 90s. One of the salesmen explained it like this, "What’s the real difference in a big truck and a small truck? Same engineering effort, same production work, all that. Hell, same parts for most systems.
More steel on the big one, and steel is cheap. We can charge a premium for the larger truck."
So, uh, just how dumb have gamers become? I haven’t bought anything in ages, don’t keep up with the news, but even my ignorant ass knows not to preorder anthing.

The understanding of CEO pay is childish around here. Back on reddit I ran the math on American Airlines for giggles. If the CEO took $0 pay, every employee could enjoy a .03 raise.
Are they overcompensated? My instinct says hell yes. But the math almost always shows that it’s a drop in the bucket. And my “gut feeling” means nothing when the market says, “We think he’s worth $X million a year.” Fuck my feelings. If that’s what the company wants to pay, that’s their prerogative.
It’s funny how we used to bitch about sports stars making mad bank, and somehow, we just all forgot to complain. Also, when the billionaire pitchforks come out, I’ve never once seen Taylor Swift’s name come up. Huh.
Lemmy likes to pretend that CEOs do nothing because their vast experience tells them that McDonald’s is far harder work. The CEO can make or break the whole company. Company values and culture flows down from the CEO. How many times have we seen a foolish CEO cost a company 10’s of millions?
LOL, after what, 5-years of dev time? That’s a monstrous lose.
Pretend there’s only 5 devs, at only $100K/yr. $2.5M in salary, and total payroll costs an employer anywhere from 20-50% more. And then there are benefits. And leadership pay and hardware and hosting fees and software fees and… And if that’s all they made, they are seriously underwater.
All together, house and all, I’m about $100,000 in the hole. I’d rather be me than them. :)
HL was game changing. Look at these specs:
MINIMUM: 500 mhz processor, 96mb ram, 16mb video card, Windows XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
RECOMMENDED: 800 mhz processor, 128mb ram, 32mb+ video card, Windows XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
I didn’t even have min specs and it rocked out. I think I had 400Mhz, 32mb RAM and an 8gb card? It won’t run on a potato like Doom, but it was a shocking step back from the ever-increasing specs required at the time.

When we were in computer camp in '84 or so, it took 10-minutes to load Dungeons & Dragons off the tape drive to the VIC-20. Had to kick it off before break time, and then we had to fight for a spot to play. Read error? Rewind and start again, now break’s over.

This is not on Google and in any way, shape or form. Google Maps is not a civil engineering project. Google is not a state or local governing entity.
What’s next? Google gets sued because someone missed out on an important interview? “Google Maps mislead me and caused me to lose out on a prospective job offer.”
Simple strategy. You lose the low value customers, retain the spenders. Less cost for infrastructure, employees, all that.
They’re likely cutting it too close with the cost, but what do I know, I don’t pay for jack.
