I’m in the same boat so following this thread. Currently using Xiaomi and unlocking its bootloader was agony. Definitely don’t want to buy Xiaomi again.

Wow, it’s just terrible. Thanks for the list.

Press F to pay respect. :)

So, they can still use them if they sell them as FreeDOS or something?

Turkey. Usually it’s possible to buy things from Germany through Amazon but Pixels are not one of those.

Well, that would be my first recommendation if they sold them here.

I’m fully agree. His current old tablet is an LTE one and there are ROMs for its Wifi model but not for this one. Linux tablets are fine by me but he specifically wants Android so they are not an option for him.

Wow, despite being an older model it’s still on sale here. Looking nice, thanks! He might find it low-spec but gotta try my chances. Having a LineageOS 22 ROM is a great point.

That’s actually neat. There is local Amazon here and only sell stuff from Germany but if we can buy directly from global Amazon, I guess that would work. It also says they ship here too. Gotta tell this to him. Though he’ll expect payment by installments. How would this work from a different country, any ideas?

Everyone sells their refurbished on their own if it’s available. Otherwise there is no website dedicated to it. Must be nice though, I would use it a lot.

Yeah Samsung sucks. You can’t even use standard platform-tools. I wish Google sold mobile devices here.

It would be fine if it was on sale but I can only find some peripherals for it. Some spare parts even, but not the exact device sadly.

He’ll replace his old tablet so he wants something new.

I presume it’s an older model since they only sell peripherals for it.

Personally I would go that way, though my Nexus 7 is already handling that pretty well. But I don’t think my friend would want a Linux tablet. :)

I checked a couple models but they don’t have a custom ROM currently. If you know a certain model with ROMs available, I can check that if it’s on sale here.

Do you know a recent tablet that currently has a custom ROM available?
Hi! My friend is looking for an Android tablet that has an unlockable bootloader and also has a custom ROM. I've checked a lot and every one of them is problematic. Usual brands here are Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei, Honor, TCL, Xiaomi. Apparently Huawei and Honor is out of question since they don't allow unlocking bootloader. TCL is new so no ROMs. Xiaomi seems possible but unlocking a Xiaomi device recently became even more pain. Do you know a decent model from these brands? Preferably 10-12 inch screen.

I haven’t used any eSIM yet so I have no idea how they work. Someone should try it. Although even if someone has a success, it probably won’t last long and they will have a precaution for this sooner or later.

I don’t think so, since they specifically ask you to connect the internet via mobile data for authentication.

If you have unlocked another one in less than 12 months ago, you cannot unlock it. They started to restrict unlocking bottloader even more and it’s now 1 unlock per account in 1 year. It sucks.

My banking app pulled the plug. They messaged me saying “you have a modified operating system”. It seems they can understand that without G-apps installed.

Didn’t know about that. I hope someone takes over the project but being a browser dev is tough.

Clarification: It’s $100 per game. And they give it you back once your game earn $1000. https://store.steampowered.com/sub/163632

I just use Droidify. I guess I don’t need cutting-edge stuff on my phone.

Yeah, those requirements suck. Though most of them can be used as Web apps at least (for now), sadly not all of them. Some provide standalone apk’s for their apps. EU need to break their monopoly on app stores. Otherwise it doesn’t seem good indeed.

Does that mean anything if you only use apps from F-Droid?

I see. Personally I have no concerns since I don’t even use G-apps at all. However I don’t want anyone to come to me with a problem either, which currently none I believe.

I install custom ROMs on every device in my household. How concerned should I be? None of them are rooted. Would disabling Play Integrity via adb fix this?
