I had no background and nearly shat myself at a moment you can probably guess lol

Yep, it lives up to the best of what immersive sims set out to be. You have point A, point B, and a million ways that you can go about getting from A to B

To me, Ctrl Alt Ego is not well known enough. It is an immersive sim in the style of Prey. You play as a robot roaming a station, where your Ego (like a spirit) can pass into and control all sorts of objects to solve puzzles, evade, control or kill enemies. The graphics aren’t impressive (it was made by a 2-person team) but the gameplay is so interesting and the story is surprisingly compelling and funny!

I actually already own those! From a previous Samsung sale when they let me trade in some random wired cheap headphones for a huge discount haha

Good tip! I just pulled the trigger as it is indeed a very good deal, seemed better than anything they’d have for holiday sales! Was able to stack employee rewards and some other offers to get the 1 tb model for 887 plus tax!

I thought the new Fold has the S pen?

I also remain on my note 20 ultra, though I may trade it in when I lose updates later this year. I’m currently leaning towards S22 ultra. Considering foldables but hear so much bad user feedback on reliability, and I also love telephoto pics so I think the S22 is the clear superior choice

They went open source on Github after they were acquired by Automattic.

This is exactly why I never started using this app. Not worth investing my time. Still on Pocket Casts for years

I have been using AIO launcher for a few years now. Extremely customizable, fast, information-first launcher. Not for everyone, but if you ever liked Rainmeter, it has the same vibe in a lot of ways.

Seems the feature could be replaced with an app or even just a macro that took screencap, opened the dialog to crop a circle with your finger, and then pass that forward to Google Lens.

This is also why languages like R and Python are supplanting SPSS and Matlab. Open source is just better in some ways, particularly once it gets over the initial usability barrier, which Jellyfin seems to now be achieving.

They added podcasts because it is comparatively cheap (they don’t have to pay the record labels any royalties).

I use Bandcamp, which does allow you to stream purchases, though I prefer to download the flac files and stream via Jellyfin

I had the same calculation a while ago. The feature where you could resume a podcast on my phone and Google Home speaker was tempting, but I stuck with Pocket Casts, which I just feel is more invested in their product. And the idea of listening to podcasts on Youtube is just not for me. Same reason I’ve never wanted podcasts on Spotify; podcast listening is something I want separate, not mixed with music.

Fortunately I use SD Maid 2, which is available on github or some alternative repositories. These days whenever there’s an option I try not to download via the Play Store. Too much drama

I am a marine scientist and need a phone that can perform in the field. I know the new foldables are water resistant, but I would be worried about salt and grit getting up in that hinge and messing stuff up. So I don’t think they’re for me, though I’d really like to have one. My Note 20 Ultra is too small to comfortably jot notes on honestly.

I personally love Samsung. Have a Note20 Ultra still going strong, got a Tab S9 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro in the last year. They are all so customizable out of the box using Good Lock and other software that it would be painful to switch. I find they all perform really well and the improvements of OneUI are appreciated. I like the Calendar, Browser (on tablet), Reminders and some other apps much more than Google’s offerings.

Still loving my N20U. Not feeling any huge urge to upgrade; we’ll see if lack of new versions of Android changes my mind

They got their start on HSW, but I believe the podcast division is now separate, owned by iHeart?

I do miss the Tizen battery life, more like 4 days, but >2 is my minimum. The Maps app is pretty great for showing the next turn when walking, and you can pull up a map view if there’s confusion about the exact direction. It works pretty well and the large display is very readable.

I’ve been pretty happy with my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Have access to apps I value like Bring, Home Assistant, Todoist, Google Maps, Yatse. Google Assistant actually is pretty responsive and useful. Music controls are effective, as is responding to texts, dismissing notifications. I get about 2.5 days battery life allowing me to do sleep tracking. So I’d recommend it!

Used to be a big fan til they started sneaking Bing search into my long press context menu.

Agreed, the update from yesterday really made it daily driver material!

Padding sometimes seems like it’s used as a crutch to get around placing stuff more thoughtfully. I agree there’s nothing inherently wrong with it, but it is particularly annoying in feeds where it results in an excessive amount of scrolling

I’d really like one. The idea of a pocketable tablet sounds appealing. But the durability and expense issues leave me unwilling to take the risk

This wasn’t a lemon. There was a specific flaw in the design that left the oled exposed to debris and it tore

I feel like they have no incentive to ever do this, and love the stranglehold they have over the standard

  • custom homescreens and themes
  • more advanced browsers like Firefox
  • sideloading apps
  • automation via Macrodroid/Bixby Routines/Home Assistant
  • open source alternatives like K9 mail
  • more native integration with Google services, though this has become less crucial over the years
