This is a >1 hour video and the first several minutes cover incidents from >20 years ago. tl;dw?

It’s kind of a shitty thing about modern gaming, is that the game revolves around the community, and if you’re not part of the community, you don’t know WTF is going on, because they never explain anything in the game.

I got pretty sucked into it playing Destiny 1 like 10 years ago but eventually it was too much fucking work and not enough fun.

I hope to never ever see this kind of behavior happen within the Fediverse, because we are supposed to be better than this.

That’s pretty naive, honestly.

That would feel even sweeter if they were losing money on every Helix sold.

They wouldn’t lose money for the same reason Steam doesn’t lose money; they sell them at market value. That’s (part of) why they’re so expensive.

They’re going to do what Steam is doing and just open up Xbox branding for licensing on PC hardware, much like they did with XBOX Ally. So there will be something for everyone.

Except people who hate Microsoft, but they were never going to buy it anyway.

hardware has been converted to manufacturing datacenter variants of this hardware.

Some of it has. Not all of it (except for Micron).

nor would it crater consumer hardware demand.

It doesn’t have to. It seems we both agree that server hardware demand clearly impacts consumer supply, and yet for some reason you seem to think this is a one-way street?

It takes time and money to convert manufacturing capacity between consumer hardware to datacenter hardware.

And yet, they did it, very quickly, and will do so again when the market shifts again.

This is built into Android now. It’s called “private space”. It’s in the “security and privacy” settings.

This was already discussed above, please scroll up.

There is no new supply. There doesn’t need to be. The demand is alleviated by it absolutely cratering. I don’t understand why this is confusing.

I mean it would be immediate. Maybe a year to reach a new low.

but if it were that would be the only reason I’d say prices might drop anytime soon

…how about cratering demand? Basically the opposite of what we have now? That’s not enough?

none of the product will be compatible with consumer devices.

…why would it need to be?

I suspect the datacenters will just pivot and repurposed to rent consumers “cloud compute” and cloud subscription services and continue to fuck the entire consumer market for years to come.

I mean they already have been and will continue to be, yes.

They don’t even have water spouts in the keyboard/chassis

…hhhhhwat

They will come down after the AI bubble inevitably pops. Maybe not back to where they were before but they will come back down.

I have no doubt that there’s demand for all kinds of stupid shit. The question is if it’s stupid, which this appears to be to me.

Show me a non arm $200 range product that can run games like mewgenics, deadcells, megabonk, etc.

There aren’t any $200 x86 handheld devices that I’m aware of, but that’s not what we’re discussing. This is a $600 device.

Basically outside of the steam deck

Then get a Steam Deck (when they’re back in stock). This thing is $600, which is more than a Steam Deck.

Not scientific ones, but they shouldn’t be necessary. Look up the Panther Lake battery tests.

There’s really not much of an advantage in efficiency with ARM anymore, but there is a huge loss in peak performance.

sigh say the thing!

Anyone who says “Linux” means GNU/Linux and anyone who says Android means Android/Linux.

What does AI have to do with this? It’s a Qualcomm chip, not made by any of those companies.

But y tho

Why would you use an ARM/Android device to emulate x86/Linux instead of the opposite?

Can it not be used that way?

We hear you. We’re listening. We just don’t care.

You said they don’t need to be a gamer. How can someone not be a gamer and know absolutely anything about XBOX? That seems like a bare minimum?

I’m honestly completely blown away at the number of people who think a CEO does not need to know absolutely anything about the product they’re supposed to be selling…

“She has zero experience but at least she’s not lying, I guess?”

Yeah I don’t get what you’re trying to say here at all.

I think being an active gamer is an important quality but it certainly doesn’t guarantee success. Certainly having never played an XBOX before in your life is a BAD BAD quality for XBOX leadership.

Former Xbox leadership Phil Spencer, whom Sharma was succeeding, was a prolific collector of achievements with a rich gamercard that was a popular subject of discussion among Xbox communities.

Scrolling to the bottom, Sharma’s very first achievement was unlocked in The Master Chief Collection and was the aptly titled “Your Journey Begins” on January 15 of this year
