Just a shiny male toy…
I really wish there was a way to run microG with graphene. I don’t want google binaries on my pixel at all if I can avoid it.
Till then, Calyxos with microG is privacy respecting but likely won’t resist feds trying to get at your data. If you’re just looking for strongly improved privacy and some moderately improved security, Calyx is pretty nice.
First wall problems compounded by geometric constraints, fueling, magnetic & corresponding mechanical complexities, particularly over long periods of time where material fatigue sets in due to coils applying heavy, dynamic loading… there’s a lot against tokamaks.
They seem to impress people, and we could all use novel research into MHD. But @[email protected] is kind of correct.
CalyxOS just works, is completely deGoogled and has better battery life because less shit is running by itself in the background. If you need any Google apps, you can install them voluntarily via the Aurora store (a version of the play store that strips serial numbers etc from communications with Google’s play store servers).
All my banking apps and work apps function, though I couldn’t get Pokemon go to work.
I don’t need it instead of my credit card, but I don’t ride the train often enough to bring the NFC card along. Ideally it’d live on my phone for when I do need it.
The real issue is how tightly integrated with Google pay everything is. I’m simply looking for at least some of the features gpay has without using gpay.
If I could at least use my phone to NFC my gym as well as my train rides, I’d be very happy. Credit card payments, I don’t care as much.
Ok, thanks very much for this, I’ll look into this app.
I’ll go on the record acknowledging that inevitably someone is selling my records and habits, but key is knowing the data is siloed across a few different brokers. If someone wants my info, I have to hope adding a bit of a paywall across it will help a bit.
Some number of apps are using pay for more than NFC payment, for ex some ticketing applications from concert organizers don’t seem to offer an alternative to use of pay. I was also hoping for support of NFC payment somehow, but had low hopes because I expect there’s PCI compliance or whatever.
Because I don’t know the backend of the compliance process etc, not an I particularly interested in researching that, figured I’d ask in this community and find at least a couple of knowledgeable answers.
I guess it’s good that devs don’t need to optimize as much as they had to, but I also feel like we’ve collectively allowed the laziness to go too far, with 110gb updates and stuff.
I personally would prefer spending my time building new stuff, but I think if I had to, optimizing can also be fun and interesting in its own way.
You know, sometimes I’ve wondered if that’s why there’s a weird correlation between the two. Engineers and scientists tend to grab physical reality in their hands and create something where there was nothing to change the status quo of existence.
Reverse engineering and modding are the applied version of that when it comes to rules and constraints. Who’s to say these types wouldn’t also be keen on changing their own mortal reality as they like it?
Typing this on my CalyxOS pixel 3. I like this phone just fine, camera works great, apps I don’t trust get installed in my “work” profile which I just got a toggle on and all those apps are forcibly paused. Battery life is basically all day based on how much I turn the screen on.
Life’s good when your phone works the way you want without advertising at you, and operates reliably.
Yeah, that was it. I dug up the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=attvYJb6xn8
