Right, hence my question — 65 character slots doesn’t really mean much if you’ll only ever have the time to play one.

Odd, Firewatch was entirely forgettable for me — I don’t think I agree that it should have sparked a subgenre.

Should it be influential? Yes, I think the only thing they did a very good job with was the dialogue. Am I surprised there aren’t ‘Firewatch-likes’? No.

Yes, though I think of them more as the times I unknowingly supported a company that was actively contributing to the death of digital literacy in the western world.

So, tomato potato — or whatever.

I think that romance in video games is… well it’s just like romance in any other medium. It exists to paint a picture in your head of what love looks like, because that’s something they can sell to you.

If you want a game with natural feeling, organic romance then that’s going to be the game. Full stop, simply having a cast of 10 characters already makes this very complicated.

I don’t disagree that comparing DMC and the old GOW games is fair — they occupy the same space. Reducing a soulslike to dodging and parrying is just wrong, though. Actually reducing a hack and slash to aggression and dodging is also wrong, see Royal Guard.

Freedom of movement, build options (you are free to turn yourself into the heaviest thing in existence compared to a gymnast, and that’s only discussing equip load), map design, the robust lore as opposed to a traditional narrative, these are staples of soulsbourne games. DMC3 has a harder parry than any soulslike in Royal Guard — does that make parrying a staple of the series? Yes, it does — Royal Guard is cool as shit.

I can go on for a while about why new GOW is more of a movie than it is a game.

Uh, while comparing DMC and GOW is wrong, calling GOW an over the shoulder soulslike is… almost more wrong.

That being said, Ragnarok was a step down from the first GOW reboot, with GOW being a great starting point with the promise of Ragnarok (which was just disappointing imo).

And the story… Jesus christ I would have preferred an absent soulslike story.

That’s a fair point, Skong was made by like 3 people and it’s probably one of the best games of all time — tons of love in the game.

I think that the amount of love that went into Clair Obscur eclipses any use of AI. If you’re under the impression that background textures they replaced must mean they used AI everywhere else — you must not have played the game.

Even if you can’t play the game, watching a 100% playthrough with no commentary is worth it. The story is easily the best part of the game.

At least, in my opinion.

The written language is developed by the spoken language. I.e. colloquialisms are king.

I raged against people using literally when they mean figuratively for years. I lost.

You can make the argument that Helldivers is more of a mission based shooter, and many people will agree with you.

Hunt is absolutely an extraction shooter. You take gear into a raid, fight other players, collect money and even their guns, fight a boss and collect the bounty when you extract.

Ah yes, I wonder why the game that goes on sale for like 10 or 15 bucks that runs on a fucking potato is outselling it’s successor.

Anyway, Omega is sick

Yeah, the other interpretation isn’t better. Either the title is critical of this or it is an incredibly obvious (verging on completely uneccesary) statement.

Seriously, it amounts to ‘Valve wants to sell more of this console they make money off of’

Haven’t played Sniper Elite in a while but I seem to remember being struck by how much they went out of their way to humanize Nazi soldiers.

Doom has Nazis?

Idk about Wolfenstein, but I have spent plenty of time in online gaming spaces.

Steam?

You mean the platform with critically acclaimed titles such as ‘Hitler My Friend’ ‘Heal Hitler’ ‘Hitler is my crush’ ?

I would never have guessed that the platform had a problem with far right communities.

be pretty cool if we could fairly easy add an option for people in a wheelchair to get them walking. Clearly you’d rather they didn’t.

Great so you missed the point entirely, just like most people miss the point of games with one difficulty setting.

Silksong is a game, bright moving colors on a screen, meant to amuse and entertain.

You’re not an elite mountaineer for pressing buttons faster than a disabled person

Crying about difficulty in video games isn’t going to stop. There are thousands of video games that are not difficult. Play those.

You’re right, difference being that what you’re saying is more akin (following the analogy) to putting wheelchair ramps on a mountain.

Silksong is the mountain, git gud and climb it or shut the fuck up.

And the idea that every game should be for everyone is the reason why Elden Ring is… kind of a bad game.

Great open world, beautiful scenery… bad boss design, which yes — that is the game.

Like, think about this in the real world setting. Think about how this hyopthetical would play out, person becomes disabled and has to sit in a wheelchair. Everyone agrees ‘it’s not fair that they can’t walk, no one should walk because this person can’t’. And then everyone sits in a wheelchair despite being perfectly abled.

Does that make sense to you? Because it doesn’t to me, I’m sorry if there are people who can’t beat these games — but damn, at some point you have to recognize life isn’t fair and just enjoy the shit you do enjoy. If being good at a video game isn’t important to you, ok that’s your prerogative. Do not play the hard video game. But this constant whining about difficulty settings and nerfs is just obnoxious.

Everyone heard Hornet say git gud. If you say you didn’t, you either didn’t play HK or you’re a liar.

Silksong is the git gud game. It is the Bloodborne 2 we never got.

Edit: also it isn’t that hard.

Ah, so make things worse — just like MAGA

I would argue that Blasphemous wouldn’t exist without Hollow Knight, and HK is still the better Metroidvania.

Dead Cells is not a Metroidvania game. It is a roguelite.

Edit: roguelite, not roguelike.

Ok, I’m not debating this further with someone who continues to cherrypick.

Enjoy your Big Mac.

I’ve played both, granted I stopped playing valorant after 2 games because it’s fucking boring (for reference I stomped both games with +30 kills and a handful of deaths, dicking around with every gun) so I easily could be wrong about my assertion. You would be hard pressed to find a single character ability that doesn’t already exist in CS or LoL.

Edit: That isn’t even approaching the Overwatch comparisons. Like, you can argue that the games are fun — that’s entirely subjective. But seriously, Valorant isn’t homogenous? How many hero shooters exist? The fucking sniper is called the Operator.

There isn’t a single character ability in Valorant that does not have an analog from League of Legends. The biggest hype surrounding BF6 is the fact that they’re bringing back a mechanic from BC2, and also that it’s smaller and more like CoD (I know, I played the beta). Yes, it’s homogenized garbage. Also no, they absolutely don’t do it perfectly, there are better tactical shooters against both titles. It is quite literally a video game fast food equivalent.
