Hold on, is the straight person arguing for the gays, and the gay person arguing for the straights?? (I’m pansexual and I think we should all just get along)

Black Girl Games is one of several consulting companies that promote more diversity in games and other media. Not to exclude white people completely.

Let’s see what we can agree on here, please stop me when you disagree with my statement.

  1. Racism still exists and is a problem in the world today

  2. The best tool we have against racism is knowledge and exposure to other cultures and ethnicities

  3. Having more than two or three AAA games with a main character that is a minority will give gamers that first hand experience with the represented culture

  4. Therefore, more representation is good for combating racism and as an extra benefit is giving more diverse worlds/stories to play

  5. There are still a metric buttload of games with white main characters or character creators that let you be white

  6. Minorities will be happy to see themselves represented

  7. Diversity is not the enemy, and companies are trying to level the playing field, not erase white people

I want to know specifically what your problem with dei efforts are so we can clear up any confusion.

Wow, just looked into it cuz I hadn’t heard about that. And yeah, it looks like that’s exactly what he did a month after becoming CEO. In fact it looks like they closed the entire publishing side of the company and possibly laid those employees off. Super disappointed to hear that from the studio behind such a beloved game

They’re not mocking the religion tho, they’re using it as part of their game but removing the melanin. It’s whitewashing basically, that’s what they’re upset about. It’s really only tangentially related to religion

no one can copyright the basic idea anyways

I can think of a couple companies that would try anyway :P

Outlaws’ early gameplay feels positively ancient - not only mechanically but in execution, in its near total lack of character, flair, invention, detail, or style. In trying to describe it, the closest comparison I can draw is with Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which launched in 2011 on the PS VIta.

I think they meant dated gameplay

Yeah the bigots didn’t ask me why I called them bigots. But I asked you. If they did ask, I’d tell them it’s because of how they make fun of women and trans people for existing. But you didn’t really care about that, you just wanted to start something. Not worth my time tho, goodbye.

It’s a woman main character in the trailer. Some loud, annoying gamers have a problem with that. Also that she isn’t super conventionally sexy, and is a representation of an average woman. And some people are calling her trans and not in a pro LGBT way.

Someone here made a comment about sweet baby inc, which is a company that works with game studios to help encourage diversity, which is apparently the end of the world for the people who call everything new “woke” unironically

This trailer is really bringing out the bigots, especially in the YouTube comments. It sucks that the gaming community, literally based on having fun, can be so toxic

Or you could see it as it is. A community that’s passionate about the game, and games in general, giving feedback to the developer about why their game might die so that this game or future games might be more consumer friendly. Only someone who is overly critical/cynical assumes any and every feedback is whining and complaining.

Back in 1996, the average computer cost $2-6k adjusted for inflation. Now they are also much more difficult and complex to make, are much more powerful, and cost less.

Yes, a bunch of effort has gone into development, but that development doesn’t disappear after the game is done. And now we have free, open source game engines that can be filled with assets made in free, open source 3d modeling software, using free, open source high level programming languages. A little bit of learning and the average person could make an early 2000s video game solo in a couple of weeks.

It sounds like your feelings are hurt. I can tell because you’re trying to cover it with the ‘lmfao’

I know you’re not lmfaoing more than once since that’s impossible, and you did admit to being aggressive so that does sound manic. Maybe you should take a mental health day and go to a spa or something? It helps when dealing with trolls

Irregardless of if you’re right or not, your comments are pretty aggressive. Maybe you didn’t mean it, but people are reading it that way.

This is a good analogy if you think of video games as a consumable product.

It’s not a good analogy if you see video games as art. Like if you buy a portrait from a painter and two weeks later they come to your house and paint over it to be a stick figure. Especially if it’s just because they want more money from you.

It’s also not a good analogy if you see video games as rented or leased goods, like most game studios execs want video games to be. Imagine renting a car for your trip across the country and half way there, you wake up at your hotel, look out the window, and the rental company swapped it out for a tractor in the middle of the night. Hope that works for you!

Sure, it’s in the contract that they can do that. And maybe you finished the trip so it doesn’t really affect you. But it’s happening to other people, and we shouldn’t trust the company going forward because one day it could be you that’s screwed out of what you paid for.

What a fascinating conspiracy theory. Interesting that you specify ngo, government agency, and government projects. Also interesting that you call it “woke/gender/diversity”. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you hear of this concept originally?

Every person I know who’s spent money on star citizen seems happy with their RoI

Every person you know personally? Most comment sections I’ve seen discussing Star Citizen seems to have at least one or two people who are unhappy with their roi. Personally, I don’t feel like I’ve been able to get my full money’s worth yet. I think I will some day, I know it’s more than a tech demo, but the gameplay isn’t quite there yet and the game is still really buggy and unoptimized.

If they can release Squadron 42 this year or next, I think that’d really start to turn things around for them more than anything else

Is this a troll comment? You seemed to have missed the point of the post.

PC gamers love PC gaming because it’s more open and you’re not locked into a certain ecosystem. Ubisoft artificially limiting their online release to two launchers (both known for being poor quality/buggy/feature lacking) is frustrating. Buying a hard copy might be possible, but Ubisoft did this on purpose to squeeze out a little extra profit. It shows they’re more than happy to put profits over customers. A customer being annoyed this release excludes their preferred launcher doesn’t make anyone a shill.

I care. Pretending intent doesn’t matter just allows the hatred this mod creator has to grow. They didn’t make that change in good faith, it’s a common dog whistle for right wing bigots. Around 1% regret transition, and often because of backlash from those around them, not because they’re not trans.

When someone’s intent is to criticize and invalidate a trans person’s very existence, I care. And obviously plenty of people do since the mod was removed.

Steamdb is useful for a couple different reasons. It shows you more stats than just the number of players, it also shows the price history and what’s on sale (you can filter only the games at a historic low price for the best deals), when a game was released and last updated (great to see if it’s an abandoned game), some other cool stuff that players might like to check before buying a game.

I usually go there during the seasonal sales and it helps save me money after seeing that most games have been that price before so it can probably wait until I actually have money haha

Well they ported it to the switch and it’s one of the larger games on the Steam Deck (highly rated, verified, and iirc it was playable not long after the Deck’s release) so they might actually be able to keep extending the life of the game for a while longer and keep making sales.

I’ve actually had it in my library for a while but haven’t gotten into it because my life is too busy for video games right now. But with official mod support… maybe I can find some extra time somewhere lol

This might also be a generational question. Ask a kid, they might answer Miles. Ask a millennial or older who grew up with Parker primarily, likely a different answer
