I know Samsung phones can do something similar with a built in Modes and Routines feature. They allow you to access things that otherwise would require root from tasker.

I have a few routines that I use.

For example,

I have one that auto rotates some apps.

One that sends a notification to my watch when the phone is fully charged.

Another that enables NFC when I open the wallet app and disables it automatically.

Another that enables auto rotate, silences phone, and enables DND when playing games.

An application like tasker makes you realise the weird and amazing stuff you can do.

Throw in a bunch of AI random videos and test the waters.

Zero efforts.

That last screenshot is the reason why I think local backups should be an option.

You can add a screenshot button to the top bar.

People aren’t buying as many phones as they used to, and the Chinese are making cheaper foldables now.

It’s not a google thing specifically to be honest. Tapping into phones happened way before android was a thing.

Smartphones, both android and iOS, just make it easier for them to tap.

The playstore is just flooded with garbage apps.

Once my apps are installed, the play store is only there for updates. Searching for new apps on the store is just rubbish.

I’m not sure but does unobtanium work for you?

I used both Touchwiz and One UI. Touchwiz came with a lot of bells and whistles, wasn’t optimised, and generally ran on old phones that had limited power compared to phones nowadays.

Current One UI phones feel snappy to be honest. Also, compared to pixel phones these days, pixel phones to be less customisable out of the box with a lot of big bulky widgets, and UI wasted space. I prefer Samsung’s implementation on android where it follows a more traditional UX.

Sync is good, but I’m not sure if it’s discontinued. If it is, that would be a shame.

This app alone (along with boost) helped seamlessly shift a lot of user to lemmy.

Graphene os is an option to use. But keep in mind that it only works on pixel phones.

That app is really old and not updated anymore. So would suggest finding another keyboard.

But if you really need to run it, then it feels that your tablet OS was updated. Google usually works on updating the target SDK regularly.

One way to try is to use an app called Install With Options. It should allow you to install older apps. Once installed, you will need to toggle the Bypass Target SDK option.

However, Install With Options requires Shizuku to be installed and running as well. So you may need to look around for tutorials on how to do that.

I am unsure of this is needed. Compared to many podcast apps, antennapod is a core podcast app without many unneeded bells and whistles.

Not entirely sure what efficiencies are gained here. Might have been better if focus was given to the original project instead.

An option is to use the secure folder option if your phone supports it.

I’m a fan of RPG games so I tend to emulate these games on my phone

  • Pokémon games from all Gameboys

  • Zelda games from Gameboy and SNES

  • Pretty much all final fantasy games

  • Suikoden 1 to 5

  • Mario RPG games

  • Shadow hearts games from the ps2

  • Dragon quest games

  • Personal games up until persona 4

  • Other games suck as Chroni Cross and Trigger, Hrxyz Force, Mother, Lufias, Tales games

All these games can be played with the touchscreen really.

The Samsung galaxy a54 could be a good fit.

Priced well, performs well, decent , and has 80% features (compared to a flagship ) of what 80% of people want in a phone.

Agreed. The fact that Samsung S phones lack memory card slots leads me to getting A phones instead.

A lot of people tell me that Chinese phones also have memory card slots but I am not touching these phones at all.

The US market is such a weird one. Apple owns more than 80% of all teens over there and Android might struggle to expand there in the future. However, outside the US, Android is still prevalent in many markets (and will grow in many third world countries), iMessage isn’t that used, and blue/green bubble argument does not exist.

Hate the fact that they push their shitty Exynos chips on high end phones in some markets.

I hate iPhones but the fact that their flag ships are standard across all regions is a great thing.

Android 14 isn’t allowing my apps to access the phone storage. I’m not even on a pixel phone.

Again, fuck you Google.

Bloody Samsung think a base S24 for €900 is cheap. Not to mention the shitty Exynos it comes with in Europe.

Honestly, fossil was a very good option for classic watches with some smart capabilities.

It’s a shame.

Rooting phones nowadays isn’t worth it to be honest.

Back in the days, rooting was great as it allows you to install and customise stuff. Nowadays, our phone use is different. Banking and payment apps are used a lot so rooting isn’t an option for me.

However, having something like TWRP is good if you want to backup your phone. Great for backup/burner phones.

I would probably start with XDA forums first.

Searching there might be difficult so you may need to use something like DDG or Google to find what you are looking for.

Install Duck station emulator and run Vagrant Story.

You can complete one dungeon room in less than 5 minutes.

True. You can still use the apps for now as they haven’t been updated yet.

When installing lineage, I usually go for simple mobile tools.

It has been acquired recently but you can still grab the tool or the fork called Fossify.

Should cover the apps required above.

Thats great. I consider the SMT essential apps to be honest. They are ad free, privacy friendly, and open source.

I would stick with the 80 20 charge.

Also, avoid any fast charging options on the phone as it heats up the battery.

Other than that, just enjoy using the phone. Lithium batteries usually come rated for 1000 charge cycles so they should be able to hold at least 80 percent of their capacity if charged daily after three years.

Would you be able give me more details of the issues faced in your previous phone?

I tried connect extensively, and I agree, zooming in on images does not work for me. Double tapping or pinching in isn’t working.

I’ve gone through the settings to see if I missed something but nothing there.

The Zenphone 9 is a great phone. If you don’t mind going for a slightly older phone, then I would recommend the Galaxy A52s.
