3D models aren’t tied to Unity, so all 3D models could probably easily be imported to Unreal.

Unity also has a 3D model exporter, so they could have used that to get all 3D models positions into Unreal within minutes.

E: still stuff like animations and game logic obviously take more time. Not trying to say that porting a whole game can be done in minutes, just the 3D Models.

Just speculation on my part, but perhaps they are using a different engine. The original was made in Unity, this one looks like it was made in Unreal.

Weird. As a die-hard collectathon lover I thought the game was “ok”. I played it after all the patches. Some challenges were ridiculous and unfun, worlds felt empty and too big at times. Controls were okay. Still fun to explore the worlda and find challenges.

From the steampage:

MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN EVER – With an art and animations overhaul and enhanced performance and resolution, the favourite buddy duo has never looked or moved better.

NEW AND IMPROVED CHALLENGES – Improvements to existing in-game challenges and many entirely new challenges to discover and undertake!

NEW COLLECTIBLE CURRENCY – Capital B’s inept minions have dropped their hard-earned coins all over the place. Collect the official currency of the Hivory Towers to spend on video games’ most beloved sentient vending machine.

NAVIGATING THE WORLD – Now you can get lost in the game, not in the world! A brand-new world map and challenges tracker helps you know where you are and what needs to be done. Hooray!

VENDI HAS PLENTY TO OFFER – Tonics are back with all new flavours! With the option to equip multiple game-changing enhancements, you can truly customise your playstyle. And as if that wasn’t enough, Vendi has new lines of merchandise for the modern fashionable adventurer.

REVISED CONTROLS & CAMERA – A new tweaked move set allows you to combine moves more fluidly while the new camera controls makes framing the action a breeze.

A DREAMY ORCHESTRAL SOUNDTRACK – The original score from famed video game composers Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) returns but as a beautifully arranged orchestral score. Now seriously, clean out those ears

Especially like the addition of the map and the new collectable. We’ll see if the updated challenges get rid of/fix the terrible ones.

I think because the 16-bit astethic (when done right) still looks amazing today, where 8-bit is just a bit too limiting.

No problem!

-Yabridge is still actively being developped. The developer responds to issues on it’s Github frequently.

-Ableton 11.x currently has gold status on WineDB. other versions have varying ratings bronze to platinum.

-I don’t use iLok plugins a lot, but I just tried installing one. iLok gave an error for me. Some searching gave me a thread about a user that got a specific iLok version to work though, so you may need to experiment with this yourself: This thread

I don’t know much about CLAP since I always used VSTs (Cubase user after all :P ). I hope more developers will implement it as an alternative, but I don’t have high hopes. .Au could only become a standard because of Apple’s willingness to not support VSTs in Logic. I’m not sure if a third-party format can shift that much weight. All DAWS either support VST, AU or AAX and I don’t think developers want ANOTHER format to maintain.

Steinberg plugins are not working at all for me. I have Absolute 4 and Cubase Artist 12.

The licensing app installs fine. However, the download center cannot be installed. If you download the installers directly from Steinberg, those don’t install.

I did have some luck with downloading Steinberg installers on a windows pc with download assistant, and then opening THOSE installers on Linux. They installed correctly this way and Yabridge (vst bridge for Linux) even identified them correctly. But the vsts would crash on start.

Yabridge is essential to using VSTs on Linux. Works great from my experience, IF the vst actually can start at all. But that is never a Yabridge problem, always a VST specific Wine problem.

Arturia stuff can be installed without any problems (through wine)

Spitfire’s recent update broke things.

From what I’ve seen, Ableton is pretty nicely supported by the Wine community. But any Ableton or Wine update can break things, so you’ll need to have Wine and Ableton updates freezed if you want a hasslefree life.

Hardware stuff I had no problems with for now, but I have mostly simple midi controllers. I have an external soundcard (UR22 mk2), so my latency is as low on Windows. I use Pipewire, because PulseAudio seems to sometimes give problems being detected by VSTs.

For now I cannot recommend anyone that has extensive VST libraries to fully commit to Linux. The support is simply not there yet. Wine is not reliable enough, and I would hate to be stopped by a Wine error when inspiration hits. You’ll be troubleshooting for days to hopefully get your favourite VSTs working, and pray they don’t break when they update.

I dual boot for now. Music and VR on Windows, all other tasks on Linux. I’m considering making stems for all my projects so I could switch to a different DAW with only Arturia plugins in the future. But I’m not ready yet.

I’m not a super expert, but I did try very hard to get my steinberg stuff and Spitfire Labs working. Feel free to ask any followup questions.

You don’t meed to have any advanced meta knowledge to play most games. There are options like playing against easier ai’s or similarly skilled players.

Look at some Low Elo Legends from the game Age of Empires 2 on Youtube from T90. Most don’t use advanced meta.

Heck, I as a kid never used advanced meta and had loads of fun.

The internet TELLS you that the latest meta is necessary and that you play suboptimally. But they’re just optimizing the fun out of the game for you if you’re not that kind of player.

This mentality is even worse in competetive shooters. People playing the latest “meta” even though they don’t realize they don’t even have the skill to pull that meta off. I wish the “internet” would just let players have fun in their own way. And that playing games “suboptimally” can still be just as fun and rewarding an experience.

It was a joke.

And I think they are very much aware of uBlock. Unhooked got recommended to me by a Youtube video.

They know.

It’s lemmy, world’s smallest social media platform. We’ll be fine :p

I’ve been using youtube on Firefox with ublock since the premium price raise. Even on android. The experience is not great, but that makes sure I don’t have ads at all.

Also discovered unhooked addon yesterday. Is desktop only, but great for going into less youtube rabbit holes that waste my time.

I find that with the roguelikes where you upgrade in between runs, losing still feels like winning.

But to each their own of course.

If action games are story heavy, I almost always start on lowest difficulty. If there are many Quick Time Events that don’t change the story, just some do-over if you fail, I check if I can make them easier. If they DO change the story if I fail, I play QTE’s on normal difficulty and live with the consequenses.

Favourite story game is Detroid:become human.

Secretly plays Shotgun King

Space Food Truck is like FTL meets deckbuilding.

Fun stuff, can be played coop too.

Total noob here when it comes to all things git, but can’t you simply host git in a privately owned server? I thought I saw that when installing some packages on my Synology NAS.

I kinda liked the over the top anime narration. The repeated lines after every dungeon were terrible, but really enjoyed the tears stuff.

+1 for Life is Strange and Detroit Become Human. Both are on my favoeutie games list.

Also check out The Beginners Guide.

Hmm interesting. DE is definately the better port, and minimum requirements were an intel 4000 chip, so I figured it would run on most laptops by now.

I guess you could always download the original from Archive.org. you would need to patch some stuff (I recall the water textures not working well on modern hardware) but should still work :)

Basically all the classics from yesteryear… Check GOG for some great vintage games:

  • Rollercoaster Tycoon
  • Age of Empires II definitive edition
  • Sims 1/2
  • Neverwinter Nights

Also check out myabandonware.com. Many free legal old games, some of which are great.

Some more “recent” titles:

  • Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
  • Portal /Portal 2
  • Binding of Isaac
  • Vanpire Survivor Many, Many other indie games

Also check out anything 3rd party released for Nintendo Switch. Most of those pc counterparts would probably run on a laptop.

If you’re into emulating, SNES, GBA and N64 classics can be played.

Games that I played with my wife that wr thoroughly enjoyed

--------COOP-------- -Unravel two. Great cute platformer where it doesn’t matter if one player isn’t that great at platformers. A mpving stoey with beautiful graphics and fun coop.

It Takes Two A platforming game with a great story. Good feels all around

-Stardew Valley Many people already suggested this. It’s amazing. Super addictive, great coop, but can be played singleplayer as well if you’re not around

- Trine series Another great platformer series. Difficulty can easily be adjusted (by allowing lifting boxes with people on it with wizard). And can also be played solo.

Escape Simulator Great escape room game with many small escaperooms that take about 10 to 15 minutes each to solve. Solo and coop.

-Overcooked Great hectic coop game. I find this game quite hectic and exhausting to play for a long time, but my wife couldn’t get enough of it. Even when she was tired. Best to play coop, can be played solo.

-------SINGLEPLAYER------- My wife enjoyed management style games a lot, where you had no time pressure of any sorts.

- Strange Horticulture Puzzle game where you try to find the right plants by deductions. No time pressure, very relaxing. Only single player, although you could play it together.

Planet Zoo Probably the best zoo management game out there. Wife was addicted to it for months

Planet Coaster Same as above, but with theme parks

Cities Skylines (first one) Great city planner

Hope this helps!

Doesn’t completely fit your description of minigames, but I spent days playing Casino card games with Luigi in Super Mario 64 DS. And the Hide and Seek game was great too.

Those minigames are separate from the main game though.

Although loved by all that play it, I haven’t seen much about Rhythm Doctor. If you like rhythm games, this is a must play.
