I don’t mind the badge by itself but the repeated Lemmy logo on both the icon and the banner next to eachother doesn’t look good to me. Easiest solution is maybe to just remove the Lemmy icon from the banner and just have it be a football pitch with all the signatures? I also wouldn’t mind the soccer ball being more prominent in the icon/badge somehow, but maybe that is just nostalgia for the old place and the comfort of the familiar.

I’m the other way around personally. He’s not a world-beater but I think Fred gets a bad rep and 30m sounds reasonable.

Elanga for 30m is just a terrible deal though, and I say that as a Swede.

It doesn’t seem like WefWef has that functionality but you can limit your search to within communities if searching from the regular Lemmy site in a browser.

There was a great breakdown by a Villa fan on Reddit but I didn’t save the post. Apart from the obviously terrible results (especially compared to what Emery did with the same players) he also possessed basically every negative trait a manager could have (at least for his Villa stint, I did not follow him in Scotland). Alienated dressing room leaders for no reason, didn’t trust the youth, poor communication with the players, miserable touchline demeanour, hostile towards both fans and journalists, overall negative and pessimistic outlook. I remember he told the media before a game that Chelsea should be coming to Villa Park and wiping the floor with them, for example, which understandably grated the fans.

This was in addition to the on-pitch issues where he put forth puzzling selections, didn’t have a clear gameplan, wasn’t good at using subs and also couldn’t adapt to individual games tactically neither before nor during matches.

Hard to say. He did well in the Championship with Norwich and it could be argued that their relegations were almost inevitable and not really his fault. I didn’t follow the Bundesliga closely but I know Gladbach never found consistency last year and looking at the stats they seemed to have been leaky defensively which has been a weakness of his with Norwich too, particularly in the Premier League. His style of play is very positive when it’s working, though.

I’d be cautiously optimistic overall, but more important will be whether the new owners can implement a better off-the-pitch structure and do better deals in the transfer market.

Unless it’s a phenomenal impostor then based on demeanor and posting style I’d say it’s the same person.

I prefer just having each thing in its own place and wholly separate, to be honest. I did enjoy the no holes barred shitpost-a-thon once a year or whatever on r/Soccer over Christmas when the mods had a day off. That felt like a proper event, but I’d not want it more than once or maybe twice a year on the main sub.

I guess a consensus hasn’t been firmly established on memes but I personally wouldn’t mind restricting them on this sub, creating a separate Soccer Shitpost sub and linking that in the sidebar.

It’s very possible United is the last PL club without proper Data Analytics at this point, though I don’t know about Luton to be fair. Many of the even smaller-to-medium size teams are Statsbomb customers now. Brentford, Brighton, Liverpool and Arsenal have their own proprietary departments and algorithms. Man City hired Laurie Shaw a couple of years ago to build one for them. I had hoped something had changed at Utd but I suppose nothing really should be expected to happen without new owners.

Last year we sacked senior members of our scouting staff just before the summer window opened, the ineptitude runs deep at our club 😅

That was hilarious timing. Though if I remember correctly those were the people who hadn’t ordered a single scout report on Nkunku while he was available so you know, maybe not a massive loss in the end.

I’ll vouch for PoppinKREAM as a fantastic mod candidate for whatever it’s worth.

It’s a clusterfuck really, but yeah the lead writer, designer and artist were all fired and lost the rights to the IP. Litigation is still ongoing I think, and hopefully Kurvitz, Hindpere and Rostov can regain the right to at least produce more work in the IP in the future. Heartbreaking for Kurvitz especially since he’s built the IP with and for his friends from the age of 15.

Yeah admins can transfer ownership of communities. Ruud might be too busy with the servers on fire at the moment though. Ideally we’d have a Community Requests sub like on Lemmy.ml

Excited to see if the bot works, I agree that goals and highlights was a huge part of the old place.

Do you know if you’ve finally employed a Data Analysis service of some kind or are you still lagging behind in that department?

I remember back when United signed Wan-Bissaka Woodward was bragging about how he was chosen from a shortlist of 804 options and StatsBomb Podcast I believe it was were amazed that he didn’t realize that it wasn’t actually a thing to brag about but actually indicated an incredibly wasteful and inefficient scouting setup.

I’d like to keep the memes out if possible and keep this sub to news, transfer stories, goal highlights etc much like the old place. Don’t mind browsing some memes now and then but I’d rather have a separate community for that. If one exists it can be linked in the sidebar, maybe.

Daily Discussion would be great, agreed.

I’m not a United fan so correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t that been a theme for ages for you? When was the last time you made your signings early in the window? Mourinho’s first summer with Zlatan et al maybe?

I think he will do well. Not a player to build your midfield around but a strong all-rounder who’s tactically sharp and a great presser. Home grown too.

It surprises me a little you haven’t pushed harder for Caicedo, but maybe FFP makes it too hard to get over the line? Getting a backup/long term replacement for Casemiro has to be pretty crucial, I would have thought.
