I had to turn it off… especially the sales guy with AI… The amount of buzzwords he kept repeating made it just unwatchable… and once they trotted out the business partners I had to just turn it off.

No, this is misrepresenting older hardware as state of the art, switching out hardware component of the system if you select the rental option, then asking a predatory rental fee, and littering the contract with mines that give the company cause to charge you extra or if they make mistakes reducing a 2 year legal period to adress the problem to a mere 60 days. And then using an army of influencers to lie and misrepresent this product in order to drive sales.

Lol at all the down votes… people could also have not engaged with your post… but apparently there is a right way to use your posting privileges and you broke the law.

Corporate fines should be GDPR style… a percentage of global revenue.

It will just cause promises to be more vague

There you go again… creating this distance and making me out as a bad guy… I’m wondering what your end game is?

So is discord a Nazi bar? Is that what you are saying? Because I’ve found myself in plenty of discords of games that have fun low key communities with an image of peppe holding a cool sign amongst all the other game and internet nonsense…

And yes the radicalization pipeline is freaking scary. But keep in mind that constantly alienating people like what you seem to be doing… creates the vacuum to be filled.

Years ago when Rogan was still a rube interviewing deer hunters, taxidermists, astronauts and other real people… I Nopee out when the peterson, Jones lineup became common… I saw the swing happening… it was vicious… and I’ll bet they took a whole swath of his audience with them.

The left needs to provide a narrative, something that people can latch on to and aspire to… to pull them in, because the policies and goals are what we all need. At this moment screetching, calling everyone a Nazi and alienating people is not helping anyone…

I fear it is the latter. Nuance seems to get lost over time. It’s maybe the opposite of black people in the US using the N word amongst themselves in an attempt to take it back… I don’t think that this was successful by any measure as it just caused the racist to point at it and say… see they even say it about themselves because only hoodlums (what a word) use it…

Could the first point on anecdotal evidence be that you see very specific instances. And/or confirmation bias? I’m not saying your observations are invalid… Just maybe not representative for the bulk of use cases… pepe is in reaction emojis on discord… in gifs on keyboards… and he is just silly. Does that mean all people that use them are aware of what the dogwistle to some might be… I’d argue … they are not.

And I think that in regards to calling people racist for doing innocuous things does have the potential to alienate people from your stance and that void is something the alt right gladly fills. And I think that is a danger that should be acknowledged. And I don’t mean be kind to open Nazis… I more mean “don’t ascribe to malice what can easily be explained by incompetence”.

As I said before I reject your premise about pepe and it’s use. And the swatsticka is a false equivalence.

I have seen zero substantiation of this overly broad statement except for some ADL fundametalists making claims and the alt-right whacos making claims. I consider both camps equally fringe.

Also keep telling all these people they are racist loonatics… at some point they might start to believe you are make it a self fulfilling prophecy. The alt right does the same… we co-opt the meme and tell people they are one of us… because we meme the same we must be the same… or something…

That’s why these conversations are so cool. It helps all of us give words to some of the things we cannot express properly. Why I also enjoy reading co tributuins by others… especially if they challenge my preconceptions.

Pepe to me seems like the opposite of the Confederate flag.

Pepe is an internet meme that is in some cases used by racist and hateful people to carry their message, but the primary function is internet nonsense.

The Confederate flag is a symbol or hate and oppression that in some situations is used to express country & westerns ideals of freedom and roaming the country with not a care in the world… without the racist subtext… however you cannot deny the basis of its use and thus should not use it.

If you follow the links, they refer to copy pasta’s of hatefull stuff including swastikas but no breakdown of what is counted, the use of the happy merchant (a meme with an antisemitic origin used to convey greed) and the use of pepe the frog in profile pics (pepe is a symbol of hate according to the ADL).

The issue I have with the whole here is that I don’t subscribe to the premise on which the analysis is based.

IF you assume pepe is a hate symbol, then each case it is used is an expression of hate and furtherance of that hate. I however reject the premise that pepe is a symbol of hate.

The use of the happy merchant is a bit more of a problem, because I see the antisemitic message it has. However I also see a lot of stupid people that don’t… and have seen the image used (probably in antisemitic context referring to greed) but people associate it with greed primarily… so this one is an issue, I think I refuse part of the premise, namely that the antisemitism part is a dominant factor when the image is used.

These are the 2 main examples, a lot more in the report that have similar caveats.

Wow… such incompetence.

Also, wow some people’s hobbies… checking memory allocations and kernel behavior.

For sure… but this is like chasing the dream. And in china they have an everything app… so … they keep pooring billions into these bottemless pits.

Edit: I also think most people don’t trust corporations to get them the best deal. So if you ask Amazon to get you product X … they will fuck you on price.

The idea is to get people into your walled garden and then milk them for everything it’s worth. Roblox does a good job gaming wise… kids spend hours playing many different games but never leave Roblox. So the hunt for the solution that can improve on this, is on. If you can get people to order their groceries from within your walled garden and take a cut… you’re golden.

It’s like they exist in an alternate reality. But then I’m fine with that too. If there is a market for that… just a shame that the hunt for this audience eats up everything else.

Who is these people that want this? And even if they do. Creating a good game does not need 500 people. And if you want to provide content after setup several small parallel teams to make cosmetics and stuff.

But the whole live service is something the companies want. So they can keep monetizing it and turn if off once a new iteration is done.

I know… but plenty of writers of articles seem to use the term gamers to identify everyone that plays any game… so of you don’t identify your target audience good enough you run the risk of making something that on paper will appeal to everyone but in practice to no one.

And also successes of iterative games like fifa run on the fact that real world changes to for example teams players are in drive sales… Because the player base is invested in the real world sport… so they want this year’s game because now the players shifted teams. But a new iteration of other games will not have that external pull.

Yeah, agreed. When the game was in its initial round of getting money I spent some money on it, knowing it was a bet. Since then the drama has unfolded and I’m just very interested in how it will unfold.

Since then I have not stopped spending money on some select early access, but simply from the perspective that I’ll sponsor development and hope it goes somewhere. I’ll even sometimes try and give feedback, although nowadays a lot is in discord… and I refuse to yell into that void.

Back to the topic… It’s silly that a company like this still ends up in time crunch before an annual event they plan themselves… and the shadiness of giving pto only after launch and if you are with the company. Hell then they should give pto then and equity now… they are requiring their staff to invest in the company and offering 1:1 pto in compensation… that’s not compensation… that’s theft… as time in the future is less valuable than time now.

I’m sure this will do wonders for morale. Are they paying people overtime for these extra days or is it free labor demanded based on unrealistic deadlines? Nope… just time off.

Well, gamers includes anyone sliding their finger on a phone screen now playing Farmville and stuff…and that is a looooooot of people. So that moves the needle on the average gamer a lot towards that end. And I think there is limited overlap between the people that use it as a time suck and the people that sit down and turn on their console/pc to play a game as a hobby.

So if the MBAs looked at statistics too much… you also get a warped idea.

It seems that stuff that gets people most excited are the inspired games made by creative people because they had a vision for their game…

Because actually optimizing games is hard, but hiring many graphic artists to make it look pretty not so much.

In the EU we use SEPA and transfers are instantaneous. Used it when buying something of our local ebay when at the person’s house. Also most banks even have Venmo style payment systems… scan qr of your bank, click on my banks icon, authorize, done.

Companies sit on cash simply for cashflow reasons. Keeping the money in your account for an additional x days means it can be used for other stuff.

In terms of touch screen control. The phone will just be the processing unit. It will wirelessly Stream the video to your tv while accepting controllers and other ik devices via bluetooth. Maybe with a switch like cradle. And I can’t play a lot of games with a controller… but my kids play fine with one… also on the touch screen. It’s what you are used to I guess.

Sont forget that pc games have faster, more frequent and longer updates, cross storefront multiplayer and quickly cost a lot less than at launch.

But you don’t really need a 4070 for gaming. Just like you don’t need a F150 to drive to work (most people don’t at least). Plenty of lower end hardware does the job well. Over the course of the systems lifetime a PC can be very competitive in terms of prices for games. And it can be used for more than just gaming.

Let’s hope for something more like 2.

BF1 was so much fun. Driving around jeeps with c4 while battleships shelled the islands.

And games are gimped on gamepass. When palworld released I had to purchase it on steam anyway to be able to play with my buddies. Also patches are late. Very late. I will not be renewing.

Great, now do total war:Warhammer 40k. I want to throw space marines with lightnighclaws into hordes of Tyranids and March a necron army across eldar plains.

I don’t think we are idiots for buying certain early access games. I personally judge games based on the state they are in at the moment they are offered and take some of the promises into account. But also so far I have had relatively little issues beyond game balancing etc with many games. And usually crash issues get fixed quick.

The satisfactory devs have a good interaction with their community and manage expectations properly.

So in this case the dev could take an hour every other week and write a blog post or something. That was also a good way the dev of banished used to do it.
