Sturdy, somewhat shock-proof and waterproof

As serviceable / repairable as possible

Yea those two are a bit tough to find together on a phone. I mean you have fairphones which are very repairable, but it’s only splash resistant, not submerge resistant.

But I found this phone called Nokia XR21 which is $499 and is has IP rating of IP68/IP69K and it’s build as a rugged phone which is very resistant to drops. 6.49 inch display and has a 3.5mm headphone jack! No removable battery tho. It has 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of monthly security updates. Personally this phone looks great to me, but this is a midrange and they don’t make flagships so I went with a Samsung Galaxy S23.

Never used a foldable phone. Looks cool, but too bad its not dust resistant and the curved display is very weak against scratches. A hinge in a phone just further shorten it’s lifespan. I wouldn’t use them until it’s not only water-resistant, but also dust proof, and the hinge better outlast the lifespan of the rest of the phone. Considering the high price and also comes with so much drawbacks, they aren’t for the average person. It’s a rich person’s toy.

The real one? You mean you have a clone? 😆

I’m pretty sure that future billionaire me seems like a cool guy, I’m totally not biased.

Eat the rich, except if I become rich, then I’m exempt because I am a honorary proletariat

/s but seriously tho, if anyone becomes a billionaire, they’ll soon get corrupted by the wealth

Lemmy has celebrities now? What? 🤔

Edit: Just searched the name, sorry didn’t learn of your existence till now. 😅

Edit 2: Oh… so that’s why Lemmy was obsessed with Barbie memes. It’s because its main cast is a Lemmy user! 😆

Soon, people can just commit crimes in front of cameras and claim it’s deepfake.

I uses to play a game called Red Crucible 2, a FPS that runs on the Unity Plugin. Game now moved to steam, but its practically a dead game now.

Oh, it’s just a hypothetical since we’re talking about a scenario where Google becomes evil. Google probably isn’t gonna lock the Pixel bootloader any time soon. I mean unless they get an incompetent CEO like spaz.

I dont use password managers.

I just use a set of random words + random numbers, usually something related to the website, the time period (like major global events), maybe just the mood I’m in when I created the password.

Example: For Lemmy, I might use IslandMazeMouse0216 (I do not use the password btw, never used this before and now never will, don’t try hacking me lol)

“Island” because the fediverse is like a bunch of islands, that formed together into one fediverse, “Maze” because this shit is confusing, and “Mouse” because the Lemmy logo looks like a mouse, 0216 because of June 12, the day the protest began, 0612, but reversed, but not reversing the 0, so 0 216.

Now I feel dumb for explaining, but also want to hear opinions.

But you see, it doesn’t matter. Most websites have login limits so you can’t really brute force the password. I just hate “password managers”, if I were getting old, I’ll probably just put my passwords inside a Standard Notes note, or just put it in a txt and use 7Z AES256 and upload it to a few cloud services.

For offline passwords, like a Windows Veracrypt encryption password, I use 5-8 random words with 5-7 random numbers and increasing the PIM.

For mobile, I use like 16-25 digits numerical pin, alphanumeric passwords are just too hard to type. I’ve been experimenting with long alphanumeric password + biometric, or a pin, and honestly idk which is better. I don’t want someone accessing my phone while I’m sleeping, I might forget to turn off biometrics before I sleep.

I’m not gonna encourage everyone to do what I do, I am not a security expert, just some dude on the internet, but I just want to share how I deal with passwords. Feel free to criticize any flaws. 😅

Well think of it this way:

The one of the common ways for someone to get their (windows) computer hacked is to get tricked into executing a .exe file. Hey why not block programs unless they are approved by windows? Let’s call it Windows 10 S, S for Secure! (/sarcasm)

I mean maybe we could compromise a bit and hide the sideloading behind the developer options. Not connecting to a computer and ADB, just behind the developer menu. Most people don’t even know how to get that menu, and the people who sideload will either already know it, or can easily find out after a quick internet search. As long as there is an option, I’ll be able to find it.

If they are going to restrict sideloading, they’ll probably restrict bootloader unlocking too. In the future, just make sure you research the bootloader unlockablility before buying a phone, because the next pixel might be locked.

Um I still can. You use a file explorer app (I use an app called ZArchiver) and find the directory, tap on it and there is a pop up telling you to grant it permission, then you will need to locate it using a android system file explorer, and once you find it, you can grant permission to access the directory to the app. I know its hard to describe using words, but I can record my screen and show it to you.

Edit: In android 13 the data and obb diectory aren’t actually restricted to third party file explorers, only the sub-directories, like the files used by an app (those directories starting with “com.”) are resteicted and you need to manually grant permission using the method I said. I can access data and obb just fine using ZArchiver.

Ahh, so the only thing saving us from a corporate dominated future is laws…

Well I’m an American, I’m sure if they wanted, they could always make a EU version and US version. I’m a bit worried for the future.

Edit: Spelling

Dude just wants to film some crypto scam victim in a forest. 💀

physical hardware switches to completely disable the mic, camera, battery, and entire modem

There is one, the Librem 5.

Warning: Usability is not great last I heard. Runs on a linux distro so no android apps.

Edit: nvm don’t bother checking it. They just raised the price to $1299 and it’s 32 gb storage with 3gb ram. I mean at this point, just get a google pixel and slap on graphene os.
