I’ve been loving it so far. For me personally the game is pretty hard but it feels much less frustrating to lose a run than in Slay the Spire 1.
It finally clicked with me that skipping a card reward is often the best option, pathing for elites is worth the relics, and upgrading a card is often better than healing.
I’m motivated to study the game and try my best to beat A10. Does anyone know good resources for the game beyond the click baity beginner tips and going infinite montages?
Look at your draw pool often, a lot of people try to play on heuristics/statistics, which that’s a great place to start. but to climb ascensions and increase your winrate you really have to get the most out of your cards and make sure you are making plays with all information available rather than trying to play averages and strategies.
Removing cards is also a big help.
Outside of a few specific cases, Strikes and Blocks are largely chaff. So my first few store visits are primarily for removing cards.
yeah that was a big revelation too, I used to think it was just there to remove curses
Strikes and defends are basically curses that do the bare minimum to beat the first two or three floors.
And yeah watch a good player on twitch because it will blow your mind, skipping is like the first thing you learn playing this game you’re just getting started.
The Silent is really good at that with the Discard/Sly mechanic. Having a deck with a lot of discard makes those curses way less impactful.
Watching Baalorlord VODs and trying to reason about what choice you would make along with him is a pretty good exercise, I think. He’s quite good at the game and offers good insights as he goes when playing.
Thanks, I’ll check him out
