We were so close to seeing another gaming handheld ship with Linux out of the box that isn't the Steam Deck, but it seems AYANEO with the AYANEO NEXT LITE weren't convinced enough and so they've changed their minds.

I wonder how much Microsoft is paying them ? And I don’t mean just giving licenses for free, but that plus extra cash.

There are precedents for this kind of stuff, like MS did when the so called “Netbooks” running Linux were all the rage and Intel giving CPUs plus cash to cell makers are two examples that I remember.

I don’t think there’s need for conspiracy theory: these people simply don’t have the knowledge to manage a distribution, even when sticking to a well set distro standard (such as Debian or Ubuntu). Here’s what did happen:

1st problem on Linux: “damn, Linux doesn’t work”

switching on Windows because they think this solve their issues

45633th problem on Windows: “damn… what we are doing wrong?”

these people simply don’t have the knowledge to manage a distribution

Why would they need to?

Why would they need to?

Because it needs to be updated. They can safely rely on community work if they don’t make anything exotic with hardware/driver and customized UI/repositories.

Anything “new” you include in the basic distro of your device… needs to be maintained somehow.

It is community work. It’s HoloISO.
