Same, the first 13" colour e-ink that doesn’t cost more than a single limb I’m so getting if I can swing it. I read digit comic books so much and having it as e-ink is my dream.

Okay, that’s pretty lame. According to several spots (all quoting an RPGsite writer and an emoji response from a Sqenix dev) square Enix actually brought in a third party company specifically to improve Steam Deck support. Honestly makes sense, the steam deck seems like their largest potential new customer base.

Do you have any documentation on this you can link because it doesn’t really make sense what you mean and I love learning about these things. Most of the cutscenes will be rendered in engine so nothing special there, and the pre-rendered ones if they used an unusual codec I don’t get why the codec isn’t baked into the game files which would render that also a moot problem.

Hopefully the mod community writes an AI removal mod quick. Seems like something they’d do. And I was just about to stand up a server for my friends dangit

Or bring back the classics. I haven’t been called a swamp kisser in a while.

Option 3: pull up a list of the developers and venmo them each 10¢ then go pirate the game?

I’m only half kidding.

They’re definitely getting bigger, but not with anything meaningful. I’m playing through Cyberpunk 2077 and it definitely feels like a lot of the side missions are unnecessary filler to pad out an excuse for the major names they got involved. I’m guessing other AAA are the same, “we need to do more than last time” whether it’s impactful to the story and experience or not.

it’s time to bring back smaller game dev companies that produce titles of substance

Just want to point out, the latest round was Microsoft closing smaller studios, with very well received titles, they had bought so that they can focus more on large “blockbuster” titles. The layoffs is the exact opposite of what you want happening

Most I think want to be the next Wozniak or Paul Allen, do the coding while someone else handles the business side.

Your point still stands though in that those two got in on the ground floor of something new and weren’t just wage slaves grinding away.

It’s not necessarily that it’s tricky to crack (it’s certainly not easy, don’t get me wrong), but that there’s no point for a couple reasons that combine:

  1. To crack a game you have to redo it any time there’s a major release of the game, such as DLC/expansion/major bug fix. The reasons for this are numerous and outside scope. But it takes time.
  2. Most crackers can only do so many games, so they often wait until most or all major additions are out.
  3. Denuvo is expensive and operates on a yearly license
  4. Most game studios only license Denuvo for those first few update cycles when they get the most sales and then remove it themselves because of the cost

That means many don’t even bother trying to crack Denuvo because they just can wait it out. It’s a resource balancing game on both sides.

The stupid thing is it totally could have made things better. Facilitated knowledge share, floated work between studios if one needed help, heck, just combining HR and publishing tools could have freed up some costs that could feed back into development. Something.

But yeah, saw it coming

Halo infinite multiplayer is free. The forge community has created a battle royale mode I’ve heard. Maybe give it a shot? I don’t know anything other than it exists.

I personally can’t stand battle royale games, so sorry, but I hope the next isn’t. It’s just not what Halo is. If they released a mode, or a side game as a Battle Royale I’m all for it, but not a full main game.

I feel the burnout though. My normal gaming friends and I are in a mode of trying new games right now and don’t play together as much.

It’s possible people won’t accept a new game just because of the name attached, but that’s not what I’m seeing.

I still play Infinite pretty heavily and most of the people I chat with there are saying the same, thank the lord leadership changed, let’s give it a year or two and see.

After that, who knows.

Most of the upper eschalon of 343 have left or were kicked out over the last year, including some of the worst offenders who drove the creation of the crap we’ve had recently such as Kiki Wolf kill.

It seems like they’re internally rebuilding 343 because they know how much of a powerhouse that IP can be if done right. I’m not optimistic about the next Halo, but cautiously hopeful now at least.

Just bring a couple extra flashlights, and maybe a light switch and you’ll be fine.

If you’re cool with lower poly graphics, ADACA was recently recommended to me. Haven’t tried it yet but looks to be set in Pacific Northwest.
