IDK is the average TikTok user really installing VPN software on it’s phone?

Yes. From the article a, 2500% spike in VPN usage.

TikTok is not a platform for political discussion

Yet, despite that, it’s working as one. Effectively.

Banning websites in the year 2024 is never going to work. The average user is more savvy than the average lawmaker.

These comments are wild and mostly sexist as fuck.

If you have kids and you give them complete unfettered access to the web I’m sure they have seen more than a boob. If that bothers you perhaps try being a parent. Maybe getting involved with your child’s online activity. Maybe don’t use the Internet as a fucking babysitter.

Clearly they’re profitable. 40% of all phone sales in the USA are Android. There’s literally billions being made.

I typically buy last generation refurbished. I was able to get the Samsung Galaxy s22 Ultra for sub $800. The last generation Fold is still over $1000. I need the cool-factor to calm down so the old ones are cheaper.

Everyone should be using a password manager. Every service should have a different password (and some service should have several passwords) and it’s impossible for the average person to keep track of all of those. Every time I hear about someone losing control of an account it’s because they were using the same password as another service.

I recommend:

  • KeePassDX: Can be completely offline. Probably the most secure but can be a little awkward to use sometimes.
  • Bitwarden: Cloud based but open source. You could run a server but the main service offers MOST of the features for free.

Your mileage may very with some of the proprietary platforms. However my job uses 1 Password and it seems to be fairly safe.
