Indeed. And its half a game, without classes, without systems and act 4-6 as well as all the skills and abilities associated with that stuff.
Another 6 months of balance and polish on it plus all the above mentioned content, it’s gonna have something for everyone that is even slightly a fan of arpg’s I’d hope.
I still play diablo 3 sometimes. Or hell even d2. I played d4 after a bit when it was clear it wasnt a complete craphsoot. Probably have a couple hundred hours in it. Was a fun game, but it cant hold a candle to my nostalgia-glasses sadly so I’ve “beat” it.
I dont see myself ever going back to it unless they add enough content that can justify another purchase. The new expac aint it for me.
Poe is f2p and if i dont play it for a year, theres 3~ new patches/expacs/seasons worth of content.
Ill gladly spend another $10-20+ on it for another hundred or two hours no question. At no point do i feel like i NEED to spend money though and thats the point.
Id rather buy 5 indie games than a d4 expac kinda thing.
Indeed.
That said, if you spent a certain amount of money in PoE1 over its entire lifetime, you dont have to pay which is nice.
Specially since both are f2p as well. So everyone can be included if you dont want to spend a dime.
The more hilarious part to me is having pay2beta in a fully priced game.
What was it, $100 for d4? Gotta buy the base game + beta access when it came out?
If you’re looking for the real logic behind it, its because the majority of the player base is dps. Every expac has to have a dps as a new class. Otherwise the majority of the player base wont have a new class to play for an expac.
Last expac was healer/dps, one before that tank/dps, and before that dps x2. Its cyclical. So we were “due” for another double dps expac. Obviously the devs and director are free to make whatever decision they want, but this is the logic yoshi/the devs have talked about on their quarterly chats. (To my understanding)
Edit: If you’re looking for sympathy though, yeah i feel it. I always want more tanks. Warrior has always been my favorite and none of the other tanks have tickled my fancy since.
And you know… It was their first game like this and they had never done anything like a 10 act story. They already stated their future plans. Back then it was up in the air.
This would be like saying it took engineers 10+ years to make the first useful car. Surely the next upgrade wont be for a while.
Also chris wilson isnt on the poe2 team. He’s barely on the poe1 team.
