Android custom ROM with rooting support
So I'm interested in buying a Pixel 8 to install GrapheneOS in it but I'm also interested in rooting it and from what I've read rooting your device with a privacy focused custom ROM like GrapheneOS beats the purpose of installing it, so I don't know if it's actually posible to do it or if it actually has any grace, honestly I just want to be able to install some Xposed modules and be able to auto-update my Droid-ify apps in the backgrounds without user interaction. Excuse my ignorance in the subject, I have never rooted or installed a custom rom before.

Is there an app to open others apps in the background without user interaction?
I have some apps which I need them to synchronize in the background but they don't, even with battery optimization turned off. I've tried using an app called PhoneProfilesPlus but I don't need whole profiles, I just want an app to be opened and that's it. Another problem I have and this may be at purpose for Android security reasons, is that even with PhoneProfilesPlus, when I set up an app to be opened in the background, the app only opens specifically when I turn on my screen, and for some dumb reasons the apps that I mentioned need to be in the main screen to be synchronized.

Thank you so much! I used it some weeks ago and I swear that when I tried to select any precipitation provider it only shown me one that didn’t have support for my country but now it seems fixed because it show me more providers.

Open source weather app with rain notifications?
I remember that when I used Geometric Weather (not developed anymore, its more known fork is called Breeze Weather) it had a option to notify me when it was going to rain, but know that functionality was removed from Breeze Weather, it's there any other app with this functionality?

**My apologies if this seems like an advertisement, I am simply a very grateful user of this project who cannot donate at this time but at least wants to share it with others.** SimpMusic is a Youtube Music front-end similar to ViMusic (or its fork, RiMusic), as such it is not a local music player, but it takes music from Youtube and plays it in an interface similar to Spotify but with its differences. To give a brief introduction of the app, I summarized the functions that I find most interesting: - The app has the ability to download music but usually if you listen to any song it is saved as a cache, so you don't need to download it. - The app allows you to see and listen to all the songs in the album of the song you are listening to, and sometimes even includes history and descriptions of that album. - The app provides lyrics for most songs using MusicMatch, which are also stored on your device if you have already listened to the song. - The app has Sponsorblock support so if your song has filler parts, you can remove them using it. - The metadata in the app is generally correct with the song you listen to, contrary to what has happened to me when downloading music from Youtube and then playing it on your local player. Unfortunately the app has no support for PC (or Linux), but if you are interested in something similar there is [Moosync](https://github.com/Moosync/Moosync) which serves almost the same purpose.

Maybe what I will say is not exactly what you are looking for but it can help, try using RethinkDNS, it is an open source app that works as a firewall and can completely remove ads from many apps without doing anything special, you simply need to turn on the app and that’s it.

I would also recommend “Auto mute”, it is another open source app that cannot filter sound by app, but can filter by type of sound, for example, you can disable the audio of specifically game-type apps. For example, I have Auto Mute configured so that it automatically silences all multimedia sound, so, if I watch a YouTube video it starts silently and when I increase the volume I can clearly hear it, but if I close the app and open another video, now the app would be silenced again until I manually turned up the multimedia sound again.

In case you didn’t know, Aves (the gallery app) has a built-in video editor
Maybe I'm the only one who didn't know this, but [Aves](https://github.com/deckerst/aves) supports built-in video editing, which was a feature I loved from the non-libre version of Simple Gallery, but well, we all know what happens with those apps. I'm not using the Libre version of the app so this feature may be not available in that version, but both the Libre and this one are available in the F-Droid (or IzzyOnDroid) repositories, as far as I understand the only difference is some proprietary libraries, but I'm not sure at all about this, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Droidfish looks great, I don’t understand how I didn’t find the app before, thanks.

I thought that by its own description “free online chess” was exclusively an online chess app, thanks for the suggestion.

Open source chess app
Does anyone know of an open source chess app? I searched on F-Droid and didn't find any, only some chess clocks.

No but I haven’t tried either, I guess it’s not possible?

I think the same, I doubt that Termux will ever replace the comfort of a terminal on a laptop or desktop PC, but for certain occasions it is very useful, like avoiding downloading full apps when I can install only one package that does the same thing, in the case of yt-dlp.

What do you mean by special on screen keyboard? I usually just zoom out the screen (making a pinching gesture with the fingers) and that works for me.

Just install Python with pkg and then

python3 -m pip install --upgrade yt-dlp

Termux is awesome
With the Termux + PyPi repositories you can do basically the same as you would do in a normal Linux terminal and it's great. I'm not a fan of having many apps on my phone and with Termux I can have yt-dlp, ffmpeg and even magick to do almost anything I want, it's just great and I don't know how Termux is not more popular, I hope more people will find sense in it and use it too if they see a use for it.
