As is the case with all media. Nobody remembers Populous or Bill Lambeer’s Combat Basketball on the SNES cuz they were horrible games, but I still hear about Zelda: ALTTP and Super Mario World.
Battlefield already has the bones for a BR mode so they might as well. It’s not really novel anymore, at this point it’s just another feature like death matches.
They’re basically turning Fortnite itself into a console in a way. Or maybe a really elaborate storefront I guess? Even though you don’t buy the games.
You don’t need AI to do that, that kind of system can be made independent of AI. It’s just not worth doing for this one use case vs using it for a whole voice.
Even Miyamoto shares this perspective. It’s not that every game is a play, but rather the characters themselves are actors and the games are the medium they’re in.
They’re still bundled, it’s just fans doing the work to put them all in one place. The spectacle was cool but E3 was always going to die once the internet became widespread.
I played Tears of the Kingdom HUDless and it was really immersive! I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything either, it honestly felt like how it was meant to be played.
The only way to stop this is to stop working for the companies that do it. That’s never gonna happen though, people gotta eat.
