The first point makes no sense and that’s why privacy is so important - not to lose trust in this stupid and toxic society because of different opinions.

Still a SIM should be a SIM. Any attempt to enshittificate or overcomplicate them is to be stopped by all means necessary.

So Sony started making smartphones again?

Lol afaik their own UX/UI design philosophy (Material Design 3) literally says there can only be one FAB

The way ai is being used is definitely heading to bubble territory with this corporate push.

I really hope so

Well the data is still valuable and some people use the same nicknames on privacy-respecting and invasive websites…

I have a pretty slow machine and GNOME Web is unusable on it. The performance is not comparable to Firefox or Chromium. Extensions are very important for regular people apparently (judging from old Firefox Play Store reviews). Also Firefox and its derivatives are known for advanced privacy features that GNOME Web doesn’t have and likely will never have because GNOME is about extreme simplicity by all costs.

I like GNOME Web and I really can see myself installing it on an old person’s computer because of awesomely simple UI. But it’s not for most people and I’m afraid that without commercial support there won’t be any good regular browsers based on WebKit. I wish engine-specific features didn’t exist. Everything would be so simple without them.

I know about that. I used to use Epiphany myself. The problem is that it’s unpopular, still not nearly as good as the other options and there’s no cross-platform support. The last one is a big problem because 90% of the market uses Android or Windows.

Still adding proprietary and actually evil AI providers is a questionable decision.

They wanted to use fast small language models, not LLMs like Llama

Looks like the “local AI only” idea was purged in favor of some Big Tech stuff that can give Mozilla some fat cash for promoting their services! Mozilla’s second (or third idk at this point lol) downfall is looking really strong with all their recent decisions. WebKit is another independent engine that still doesn’t seem to suck in terms of enshittification but it’s basically not used anywhere except Apple ecosystem. Chromium is getting a full monopoly yay.

Oh ok then. I heard 10 series and older had more issues than newer ones

If you didn’t know, fractional scaling isn’t available on X11 so there won’t be issues if a new user tries to turn it on

Wayland is pretty good but without the drivers (that are not provided by default on Ubuntu) you will have fractional scaling issues and probably other glitches

Losing a little bit of the remaining good reputation as a good and well documented beginner distro.

We’re really losing the reputation with this one.

Well that’s probably a good thing because some people will switch to something else that’s not so privacy invasive

Using this idea will give minors feel of complete safety when doing crimes. I don’t think you have any sort of morals if you support it but it’s a question for your local law enforcements. The crime in question can seriously damage the mental health of the vuctim and be a reason for severe discrimination. Older minors should be responsible for their actions too.

The clock drivers are not programmable right? I’m tired of all these “improvements” that don’t help anything except for killing repairability and programmable current control chips are one of them

I know why they want to control digital space and I know they won’t leave it alone but still there are a lot of disadvantages to the control that law-obedient people understand and hate. The current situation has a lot of injustice towards them that surely helps fighting crime but the price is way too high. Even completely prohibiting usage of the internet for minors isn’t possible because it’s a law that’s impossible to enforce. There will always be compromises and issues in this space as in many other ones. This is why it’s hard or even impossible to have happiness in such a complicated world. The more controversial things there are, the more arguments and issues appear.

But that requires the apps to be able to identify if the user is in the “privileged group” or not so even more tracking now? We definitely have to stop it.

Fundamentally, privacy and data-driven marketing are diametrically opposed

This is so true

Data anonymization is a good thing. If websites start using this solution instead of Google ads that’d be quite good. Well better than Google at least. But people seem to be afraid of ads getting added into Firefox. If it happens it will be a ticking bomb because the hunger for data and profit will rise every day.

They could just use non-personalized ads instead tbh. They do need to earn some money after all

You didn’t say it’s fully open-source so RISC-V is better no matter how “open” ARM is

Too technical; didn’t understand. I prefer RISC-V at this point

I still don’t understand. Is it like RHEL (they give you all the source code) or more like Windows?

The assassination attempts on China’s tech industry in general backfired a lot already

Or just hidden vulnerabilities the devs are too lazy to fix

Sorry for a kinda clickbait title but it is what it is. I just watched a video about Android 15 changes and a lot of them are either not important or straight up bad. I want to specifically mention increased background sensor usage (such as microphone) and the Find My Device network. These are serious privacy issues that just make lives of custom ROM developers and users harder by having to disable more and more stuff (that's turned on by default of course), as well as a contribution to ewaste generation and general decrease of battery life. I guess we are getting into the era of complete death of digital privacy and absolute surveillance. This is scary but not too unrealistic I guess. I just hope the devs of privacy-focused ROMs will be able to do something about it and purge these changes.
