I think you’re wrong. It appeals to gamers who want a simple living room PC and it appeals to console people who just want to plug something in and start playing. If the price is right, this may be huge. Also, it would actually be an upgrade for a lot of Steam users so there’s another huge market.

I think it’s unrealistic they’ll price it at $500. I’d be pleasantly surprised if it’s $600. Above $700 things will get difficult, though. If you can build a more powerful PC for the same money, the cube loses much of its appeal. That goes for both nerds and normies, because those will buy an Xbox instead.

I don’t think it would make sense for them to sell it at a loss. On the other hand, they don’t have to make a huge profit from it either. I really hope it’ll come down to a range of about €600. That would make it a no-brainer for me.

The deck is a bit underpowered for 4k. Most TVs are 4k these days, so the machine needs to be good at that.

But on the other hand, Valve have economies of scale, so they can build this thing cheaper than a normal person can build a PC. Plus, they don’t need to make a huge profit on this stuff. The purpose of the hardware is to sell games. At least that’s what I’ll keep telling myself until we find out more.

Me too. I’m not really into VR but I definitely want the GabeCube.

The end user is seen as nothing but an exploitable resource. If a few thousand nerds don’t like it, they don’t give a shit. Until the general public wakes up to the shitfuckery, nothing will change. Just ask your mom, what she thinks about Microsoft’s data collection.

My theory is that they’re just scared to annoy Nvidia too much. If they priced their GPUs so as to really increase their market share, Nvidia might retaliate. And Nvidia definitely has the deeper pockets. AMD has no chance to win a price war.

It’s all performative. Everybody knows that word filters do nothing to prevent bad things from happening. But taking actually effective measures might impact the bottom line.

Good article. They’re certainly making progress but there is still a very long way to go. I still stand by the fifty years from my other comment.

I’m a bit more optimistic. It should be doable in fifty years.

Axes entering skulls give pleasure to the psychopaths we let run our societies.

If this is accurate, it should get Muskiboi in deep doodoo in Germany where this kind of stuff is highly illegal.

It’s not like the Nazis invented this shit.

You could try to get a used Steam Deck. That will let you play most current AAA games and plenty of indie or older titles for not a lot of money. Apart from that, I wish you all the best and I hope things get better for you.

And you can get a whole collection of games for the piece of one Nintendo game. They have a lot of kids’ games too.

I wonder if we get a Steam Deck 2 by then.

I’m going to play all those games! Really! Some day.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

Another dangerous terrorist eliminated.

PUT DOWN THAT JELLYFIN SERVER AND NOBODY NEEDS TO GET HURT!! THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING!!!

If there weren’t so many pathetic losers paying for this sort of crap, none of this would be happening.

That thing would be OK if it was reasonably priced. They don’t even pretend to be interested in anything other than squeezing money out of their customers. If there was meaningful competition in the sector, this wouldn’t be happening.

Those games are so expensive because people will pay those prices. There are plenty of cheap games to be had.

OK. Never bought anything from Nintendo, so that’s not a great sacrifice.

Wait, what? Are you implying there is a world outside the US? Preposterous!
