P6P here had it since day one. My battery is not in the best shape, but not terrible either.

I just charge when it’s needed and adaptive charging has done a pretty good job of keeping the battery healthy.

Overall though at the end of the day I’m not sure there’s too much we as the user have control over.

It is interesting that the price has already dropped on the P8 and is expected to continue to drop thru black Friday.

This is precisely why I never buy new anymore, having been burned by two previous Pixel releases in the past.

This chip situation doesn’t bode well for my continued Pixel use however.

Software is important but it isn’t everything, and like the article said raw horsepower does matter. For me. The most important things are battery, life display brightness, and cellular connectivity - something my pixel 6 Pro objectively fails at on all three fronts.

Combine that with all of the data theft that Google software utilizes, and I think I’m pretty much done.

I’m in the same boat and remember seeing reports that the chipset is not expected to run much cooler which is my main reason for wanting to ditch the P6P.

Here’s one example: An Insta 360 camera for a single 10 minute video can produce upwards of 10gb of data.

Those video files can only really be transferred to your phone for editing and sharing.

That’s ONE example that doesn’t include gaming (a highly mainstream community) that also requires gigabytes of storage.

Seriously. Fewer and fewer people are using Google as a search engine anyways. I know it’s miniscule, but people are aware of Duck Duck go, and aware of Google’s spy apparatus, hence why in any survey or poll they conduct they ask the user’s opinion on how well they think Google is doing with their private data. I always score them the lowest possible.

What we should be concerned with is how many websites and third party logins use Google.

My old one plus phone is esim compatible and I wouldn’t be mad if it broke or was stolen. I’ve made it my travel phone.

Big if with a long window in the tech world.

Wa wa wa FOSS nerds. Don’t try and push shit on me if you don’t fully understand it.

My amazfit watch does all the shit the Google watch does (and more) and it has lasted two years already. When it breaks I won’t feel bad about getting a new one because they’re that good, and priced right.

If something costs nothing then you are the product though. Have you looked into their TOS?

Skimmers aren’t a thing? Especially with near field? You’re wrong. I ONLY use my phone and NFC to pay for things and that’s how the data was stolen as verified from my credit card company and Google. But hey you know best right?

It was specifically stolen from Google Pay and contactless payments.

This fucking pisses me off. No wonder my credit card details were stolen last month. I only ever use NFC.

That’s their one shot. No more mobile payments for me. Deactivated now.

Use it as a digital picture frame.

Going for the jordi look from Star Trek. Bad enough people already call it a “visor.”

I think I’m going to wait until the Pixel 10 when they have thermal issues under control. It’s their own fuckin chipset at this point basically so no excuses.

I need a brighter display in sunlight and a better front facing camera, and thermal management. Everything else is bullshit.

You created the need, not the manufacturer, not me, not your mamma YOU DID. And you can still get phones with a headphone jack your just pissy every phone doesn’t come with one.

Get the fuck over yourself.

Yeah man and they said that with the horse and buggy as well which had been around for thousands of years, and DVD and laser disk, and mp3’s and jet flight.

Yeah, there’s still a niche if you’re wanting to “win” your argument. But you may as well shout at the wall.

Manufacturers don’t care about your niche use cases especially since arguably better alternatives have come about.

This is a case though where your other sound systems you guys are also trying to plug into are outdated. Because your phone is not among your outdated productsl, doesn’t mean it’s a manufacturers’ fault. They are simply catering to the market.

Newer head units (stand alone audio sources) have Bluetooth and other connectivity features plus a jack anyways.

So because you’re using outdated shit it’s the phones fault? Let me ask you, so you think more devices in the future will have jacks or less? Answer: less. The sooner you change your equipment the less heartache you’ll have.

So buy a DAC with mini jack adapter and call it a day then?

Seems really awesome and promising however I’m not really trying to have an outdated computer (read: phone) at 600 euro. Not even available in north America right now.

I like what they’re trying to do, however 10 years is an eternity in the tech world and if this company doesn’t sell enough phones - likely enough of this phone, then whose to say this company will even be around in 10 years, much less have a dev team competent enough to take over support where Qualcomm left off?

This is one of those huge promises that manufacturers make, with little to no evidence of being able to back it up.

Will it also still continue to overheat like the Pixel though so we get the best of both worlds?

Only Google is allowed to mine your information everyone knows that.

Alright smartass, it effectively became his quote when he referenced and repeated it and applied it to his specific industry.

This generation may also have no awareness of the Picasso quote either, ya pedantic smartass.

For one thing - the last thing I would want under these circumstances is for a $50 chipped cable sold only through Google - how Apple currently does.

There may be legitimate reasons to have the technology side inside the cable, but this isn’t one of them. No thanks.

Is it low effort though? There’s an entire generation that wasn’t around for the introduction of the iPhone and may have no idea this quote even existed.

Android currently has an image problem with this generation. To say the two are not related and chalking it up to “low effort” is, in itself, low effort.

Awesome, with low post counts and users on Lemmy, and an upvote system that mimics Reddits - your shit out of luck with whatever agenda for keeping lemmy “small” or however you pictured it in your mind.

The upvotes have spoken and the community wants to see this type of information.

Nah, since 2007 when the iPhone came out everyone had to have one. Then the 2nd model had GPS and apps in 2008 and blew the doors wide open. By 2010 HTC was releasing phones like the incredible and the “droid” moniker was in full swing - with Apple consistently mopping the floor.

I’d say iPhone fervor kind of died down around 2010 actually.

Seriously, and all so your iPhone friends can consider you “cool” no fuckin thanks.

And it’s so outdated too. The iPhone was a “cool” status symbol in like 2010 and 2014. Not so much when everyone has them.

That would be amazing as well. Just think of how great of battery life we’d have without all the tracking nonsense.

Next big evolutions I care about in phones?

  • Usable in rain / moisture 👀 One Plus
  • Displays that go bright enough to use outdoors.
  • 1080p front facing cameras as standard.

Otherwise, don’t talk to me.

So dumb though, who actually uses that? And I’ll ask again until eternity: why do these tiles need to be so large?

They’re referring to what you have observed, you are looking for and wanting to see Iphones.
