Isn’t this just the tech version of cuckooing?

Illegally using someone’s property to make profit from dodgy business.
I played this. A great game. That era and Bullfrog in particular were incredible. Dungeon Keeper is one of the best games I played. Theme Hospital and Theme Park were great. It was the golden age of strategy games. Age of Empires 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Red Alert games. Railroad Tycoon. I have no idea why this type of game became unpopular.
I strongly recommend Dungeon Keeper 1 (ideally gold with Deeper Dungeons add on) and Theme Hospital. Can get them on Gog.
I think the important thing is consent to use data. If I can control what data I share with them, it isn’t the end of the world. If I choose to not, and it’s honoured, then this is a good thing. I’d prefer this approach funding development to Mozilla not being able to compete.
Mozilla is a far superior company to Google.
Which they could also report on. The fact they’re removing a standard metric they’ve relied on, rather than relegate it, shows they have fear this metric is going to be detrimental to publish. You can fairly safely assume it’s going to go down. It’s no longer sexy, tik tok is killing it, and most that would be on it, are, and are discovering it’s not greatly beneficial to them and spending less time on it. It is the start of the decline. How long and how fast is the thing we do not know.
A few lyrics from NoFX come to mind.
“Kick back, watch it crumble See the drowning Watch the fall I feel just terrible about it That’s sarcasm, let it burn”
"Where did all their money go?
Don’t we all know? Parasitic [gaming] industry As it destroys itself We’ll show them how it’s supposed to be"
"Dinosaurs will slowly die And I do believe no one will cry I’m just fucking glad I’m gonna be There to watch the fall
Pre-Historic [gaming] industry Three feet in La Brea tar Extinction never felt so good"
Switch a few words and it works perfectly well.
Gamers need to realise it’s all about the indies. Buy indie, screw AAA. Watch them grow and hire those talented folk that deserve better than this bullshit.
Yeah, it stood out to me.
It’s always in what they don’t say.
If they say it’s not a RCE vulnerability, it could still be a privilege escalation vulnerability etc. They avoided saying their software isn’t being exploited or “we have seen no evidence our software has been compromised”, or “there is no clear signs…”.
Which gives a little wriggle room.
Try Minetest - https://www.minetest.net/
It’s a FOSS voxel engine, so they can play multiplayer with their friends for free. MineClone2 is a Minecraft clone on Minetest, so even if their friends don’t have Minecraft, they can still play with friends.
For paid games, consider indie games, as they’re less likely to be micro-transaction bullshit. Raft, Stardew Valley, Two Point Hospital are good options. Not so much multiplayer, but Stardew supports it. Multiplayer wise, maybe Among Us if the parents are comfortable with that.
Not necessarily.
Many held off buying a PC because they couldn’t get a GPU due to crypto mining slurping it up. When they came back, they price for years old hardware was scandalous. People held off, until they finally needed to update that hardware. Guessing that upgrade queue has been worked down somewhat.
Such a weird list. Powerwash simulator in it, but no Bullfrog game. No Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital, Populous, Theme Park. Not even Black and White. No Age of the Empires 2. Heroes of Might and Magic 3… Command and Conquor…
What a load of poppycock.
Considering they have Alpha Centauri in there (justifiable), they don’t seem to have many staff who have played some of the classics.
Minecraft is one of the biggest games on the planet. Very popular with the young. Not what many would consider beautiful.
