Which one? There’s a lot of horrible gamer words? Is it the one that begins with R and is five letters long or a different gamer word?

You know what’s terrorism, what I’m talking about when I say terrorism? Calling bomb threats on schools and hospitals because they support trans rights, talking about or encouraging people to do that. Shit like what LibsOfTiktok does is terrorism. These are the kinds of Terrorism you see on Steam, in forums, games, and live chats, awful shit that would not be considered acceptable by any decent person. It would be one thing if we were talking about nuanced takes discussing the war on Israel and people on Steam were being accused of antisemitism over “anti israilism” but that’s not what’s happening there. Most people on Steam discussing that are in fact being antisemitic, are in fact attacking Jewish people and Judaism, not the israeli government.

When someone points out terrorism on Steam they’re talking about the death threats and bomb threats, when they talk about Steam being racist and antisemitic they aren’t taking about anti-israel takes, they are talking about hatred towards jews and people of racial ethnicities. The situation here isn’t nuanced it is very much the clear cut 4chan shit.

Yeah, sort of. Though they’re a bit more honest since they don’t even pretend to care about us. Probably hoping that if they stay quiet long enough the problem will go away and won’t hurt them.

Great to hear.

Edit: Downvote me all you want random angry losers, doesn’t change anything. I will continue to let admins know about assholes who violate their own homeserver’s rules. The fact that you hate it means I’m doing something right.

Agreed, they really need to step it up when it comes to moderation of this type of content, including giving out permanent bans to people who make threats or harass others. Most people get a slap on the wrist if anything. I was literally harassed the last time I logged in to steam because the people I knew before knew me as a boy and I come back as a girl (I’m transfem) and they really didn’t like that, ended up calling me a groomer and the t-slur. Awful experience, even though I reported it Valve did absolutely nothing about it.

Worst part is, it seems like it’s still up on the platform for purchase. They legitimately do not care. It’s funny though that they decided to ban one developer and their games because the person was being openly transphobic, so it seems like they’re trying to make people think they care, despite not actually caring.

Valve hasn’t openly stated they are like 4chan though, they may correct it if pressured since it wasn’t their explicit goal to be a right-wing safe haven. Maybe it is but they haven’t been open about it yet. 4chan is a lost cause when it comes to this, same as kiwifarms. They do not care and will not budge. Valve might since they need Governemnts not to ban them or publishers not to pull out else they lose money.

You shouldn’t be excusing nazism and the disgusting harmful shit people like LibsOfTikTok do. Even if it isn’t explicityly illegal it still hurts people. Apologia for this shit isn’t okay or acceptable ever. You’re on a Trans friendly instance I can’t believe you’re sitting here trying to justify some types of online abuse.

@[email protected] Just curious, what do you have to say about this type of apologia towards Nazism and other forms of online abuse?

I suspect they haven’t heard about it as much lately. I bet if German politicians heard about the Swastika and Nazi stuff they would be on it very quickly. Nazi content like that is a big No-No in Germany.

Thinly veiled transphobia is still transphobia, and even if you never said anything transphobic, your modlog shows a clear history of atrocious behavior such as downplaying death threats, engagement/promotion of bigoted ideology and just overall hostility and incivility in general. Things most server owners don’t want on their servers.

Also, I don’t appreciate you trying to cancel me just because I don’t agree with your post. We’re adults here.

No one’s canceling you sweetie, servers have rules, and when you break them or are an ass people won’t want you to be there. You’ve already been banned from quite a few of them, and the fact is a lot of your behavior indeed does go against PD’s CoC. These admins deserve to know since they likely won’t see the reports, and removals unless they’re investigating you personally.

Oh my god, is this you? https://discuss.online/modlog?userId=247367

No wonder you hate the ADL, they advocate for the rights of minority people you regularly undermine and attack. They’re working against you, especially because more protections means people won’t take your comments seriously and instead call you what you are, a troll, and you’ll also end up getting banned from more and more places.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] Just so we’re clear, this person is on your instance, using your platform to spew hate towards minority people on the Fediverse. Just want to make sure you’re aware of this.

There’s almost no moderation on Steam at all. Sometimes threads advocating violence get removed, or threads with a lot of hate get locked but it’s almost always long after the damage has been done and often times the ones doing nasty shit don’t end up getting banned.

Privately owned company.

Another thing, the first amendment doesn’t protect against violent or criminal speech, like terrorist threats/advocacy, threats towards individuals (bodily harm, sexual assault, murder, etc.) things which there is no shortage of anyway on Steam and they have every right to force the platform to moderate this, on the count of it being against the law.

Teenage nazis when not moderated or taught otherwise will grow up to be adult Nazis, and also have the very real possibility of spreading their hate to others when not moderated. It may seem trivial like something to hand-wave away, but many of these people complaining about woke games will grow up to be hateful republicans like the ones currently trying to take our rights away. It’s not a laughing matter.

Of course they don’t, companies only care when Pepsi Co and P&G take away their ad revenue for serving extremist content and catering to extremists. Valve has no ad revenue and is the only real PC game store on the block, so no one can make them “care” the way YouTube and Twitch, and other platforms are made to “care”.

I’ve seen whole threads in game forums dedicated to Nazism, and I myself have been called a “groomer” and the t-slur because people knew be as a boy before I transitioned. Legitimately horrible place, they absolutely need to take more action against this.

It happens in games that have chat as well, mostly shooter games like CS2 and TF2. Consider yourself lucky if you haven’t encountered people like that, they’re not hard to miss unfortunately in those games.

I recently started playing some games and I was called slurs in the in-game chat, also by people on my friends list because I’m a girl now, and they knew me as a boy (Yay, transphobia /s).

Once you get into the realm of terrorism, threatening real world harm, calling for violence against minorities. It’s no longer subjective, it’s considered extremist and dangerous. In other words, your rights end where others’ begin.

Many people also don’t know how to recognize thinly veiled hate speech or dog whistles. So it flies over most people’s heads and looks like normal discussions, even though it isn’t.

Go to Gmod, TF2, CS2, Call of Duty. Popular fighting games. Gmod and TF2 have some of the worst offenders there in my experience. Though the Dustborn forum is basically a 4chan clone with how much people hate that game, not even because the game isn’t good but because they hate queer people and are racist pigs.

I don’t think that Nazi shit or promotion of terrorism falls under “mean things on the internet” that would be over-trivializing, and I do say that because I have indeed seen many people doing these things in my years on Steam, as well as encouraging violence towards me for being a girl and having “used to have been a boy” (being transgender).

Honestly it’s about fucking time. The unmoderated hate speech on their platform has gone on long enough. Many people don’t realize just how bad it is but I recently hopped on some servers and I got called “tranny” and “groomer” because people knew me and they knew I “used to be a boy” (not true, I never was a boy, just in-denial). I’ve also seen people pushing Nazi shit on Steam community discussions and in-game on official servers, it’s insanely bad.

That last one is the Ally flag, though I don’t see why Allies should have a flag dedicated to them, if you want to fly a flag in support of us, just use the rainbow or progressive flag. Like why is a special ally flag needed?

Straight people do not need to take pride in being straight as they are not oppressed for being straight. They do not need to beg for recognition as a straight person or beg not to be abused for being straight, people are understood and assumed to be straight by default. Straight pride parades, straight pride badges, and straight pride labels are a reactionary counter movement to LGBTQ+ pride often arranged and practiced by people who are bigoted or intolerant towards LGBTQ+ people.

You saying that calling out people for setting up or attending straight pride events or wearing a straight pride label is somehow equivalent t criticizing or denying gay people pride is a bad faith comparison because the situations are not equal and like I’ve already said. Straight people are not oppressed for being straight.

The request is seen as absurd because for the most part straight/cis people do not need to affirm or have pride in their straightness, they aren’t oppressed or have limited recognition for it, the desire for “straight pride” is completely reactionary to the idea of LGBTQ+ pride, and the person on Steam who requested that feature is likely a bigot who is annoyed about LGBTQ+ pride, so the developer’s response is justified.

I don’t blame them for responding petty. Steam has some of the most hostile and bigoted people out there. Something like this is a great way to push back against them while being funny and highlighting the absurdity of their request.
Which it so is, people don’t need a straight pride flag or straight pride label, they’re just trying to push back against LGBTQ acceptance.

As if being queer is wrong or abnormal 🙄

I may be trans but as far as most people are concerned I’m a normal girl.
