I spoke with several employees of Sweet Baby Inc. to learn what the company actually does and how the misunderstanding of its role in the industry highlights a far broader problem.

You don’t know what Sweet Baby Inc. does, but you assume the people complaining about SBI must be incorrect? Do journalists in any other sector of the market fall all over themselves rushing to defend companies like they do in game development?

The kinda shitty part is that everybody is a full time employee but you still get frequent layoffs after projects end. That’s the worst of both worlds, especially in the US where there are basically zero mandatory protections. In places with actual labor regulations it’s… kinda expensive and self-defeating.

Something like 60% of EA employees live outside the U.S.A.

If you haven’t seen “King of Kong,” you should definitely watch it.

I wish I had a use for that.

they change the names because they suck

well, I don’t think battle.net is the worst launcher

Origin is still bad and so is whatever Ubisoft’s launcher is called.

edit: for the record I didn’t say that steam was the best launcher, but I have found the launchers for world of warships and warthunder to be serviceable

Last year, I pointed out how many big publishers came crawlin’ back to Steam after trying their own things: EA, Activision, Microsoft. This year, for the first time ever, two Blizzard games released on Steam: Overwatch and Diablo 4.

Why is it so hard for companies to build a game launcher that doesn’t suck? Is it just a lowest bidder situation?

Lethal Company is still in early access. It is anyone’s guess what will happen between now and when the game is “finished”.

We all know what helped kill E3, and as an industry we should all be upset.

I don’t know.
