I loved my fold 3, but the screen just doesn’t feel like it was very durable. And the screen protector that is on them only lasts about a year. Getting it replaced was a major pain in the ass since the nearest place that put them on was 3 hours away. And both times they fucked it up and got annoying air bubbles. I finally took it off, but I guess that is a good way to get that black bar going up the middle.
I got a decent deal to trade it in for an s23u I guess. Not going to lie, I DO miss that big screen… But just didn’t feel very comfortable with the tech.
I’ll never get this reaction to foldables. Personally Im not in the market for them especially in their current state where they are super expensive, fragile, and for me dont offer much in the way of practical use.
That said it will be exciting to how this market improves. As eventually costs come down and reliability goes up you can eventually easily get something that is more portable than a modern slate form factor which can also unfold to allow for better media consumption.
For the ridiculous price theyre asking for experimental tech I get the pushback, but it it doesnt take a lot of creativity to see how technology that allows for a bigger screen in smaller form factor can be useful.
Why the 16:9 aspect ratio? Do you watch a lot of videos on your phone?
I’m rocking a Pixel 5a for the headphone jack. Was one of the only “newer” phones that had one. Zero idea what I am going to do when it eventually dies on me. Doesn’t seem like anyone is including headphone jacks anymore.
The idea behind the tech can be useful in niche situations, but for the general user - until it is nearly indestructible - it’s something most people are looking to avoid. After all, you drop an exorbitant price on something with a specific stress area that can cause damage which you can either repair for another exorbitant fee or just be forced to outright replace the device entirely.
Most people are fine with just a glass rectangle in their pocket.
8 months in and it’s great :) we will see how it fares longer term, but aside from Discord being wonky when moving between resolutions, it’s largely been great. I was nervous about screen issues originally, but maybe I’m just lucky.

@Nicodemus_Weal I watch a lot of videos and I play a lot of older/ported games, both are best enjoyed in 16:9.
Hard disagree, the Samsung Fold 2, 3, and now 4 have been my favorite phones.

I see them as a in between tablets and smartphones, but tablets are already the uncanny in between Laptops and Smartphones…
I want a phone that works and i want a pc that works, but the fold devices are (in my opinion) the bad parts of both
