Highguard had submitted a trailer to be shown during the Game Awards, and the showrunner was so enamored with the game that he chose to give it the coveted last slot. That meant the awards show which had thus far had some really impressive announcements closed with a trailer for this firmly mid looking game, and people were pissed. It meant ending on a pretty low note compared to some of what had been seen.
Some people thought incorrectly that Highguard had bought this last slot, but overall it did a lot to turn sentiments against the game, a hurdle they’ve been trying to overcome ever since.
It is but even more level-headed concensus is that it’s just not that good or at least not polished and ready enough for release. It’s not fun and needed better collaboration with it’s audience to find the fun.
