That’s apparently a new style of presentation oftentimes done purposefully to give a more ‘real’ or ‘authentic’ view of the presenter due to appearing as a less polished production.

I try not to let my distaste for microphone holding turn me off of every new (to me) YouTuber I discover that does it but it definitely hangs around in the back of my head when I watch them.
The only one who doesn’t bother me is Josh Strife Hayes who puts it in a mug which I think seems at least mildly subversive
