I for sure think things have changed. I think they are a good value for people who share their games. In the sense that there’s something for everyone. It’s not really my bag either. As I stated, I tend to just grab my own games when I like them. I don’t play AAA games or anything terribly graphically advanced, so that in itself sort of nullifies the bundles for me. As most of them tend to focus on what larger titles they can pull. I worry often that a lot of these sites in general prey on people to be honest.
That’s something else though. I just thought in general the pay raise makes sense because everything has raised their prices. I just wish there were more to justify it over.
My partner runs Windows, I run two separate distros not by choice but by driver support. I was messing around on her computer the other day, had to pull something up. I was startled by just how sluggish the entire experience was. Mind you, one of the distros I run is a destroyer of ram. I couldn’t believe it. I felt like I was hanging out on a computer with fifty viruses and the pop-ups were coming for me.
I think they’re doing what they have to do to be honest. I don’t like that they fired everyone. I don’t like what they’ve done to their publishing. I am not particularly interested in buying their things anymore. I think a part of that is because they started so whimsically. Some of my favorite games of all time have come from the bundles. Things have changed, but every fudgin’ thing in this world has gone up. So clearly, even with a skeleton crew (that’s what they have to be running, right?) they more than likely were going to raise the price. Because they gotta do that capitalist thing.
I don’t like it. I have never liked it. I think this is more of a “is what it is” thing. For a hobby, it gives you a smattering of games for typically the price of one, on sale. It’s freakin’ stupid as hey-sauce it’s a subscription. Let alone that you need to jumpy through an insane amount of hoops to get your games/unsubscribe. My gal grabbed the one with The Thaumaturge recently, so I saw the lot first hand.
I think they really need to re-evaluate their next few steps however, or they will basically be nullified by whatever is next. If there is a what’s next, in gaming bundles. Not sure. I just tend to buy what I like, and what I like is weird.
I really hate that they’re basically bullying people into upgrading. It’s such shit. I really do miss some of the applications I used to use. I am not a “power user” and while I can learn things on my own, I think a part of that requirement is to cultivate a want to do so. So while I miss some applications I used to use, I still don’t miss them enough to figure out how to properly emulate them in the Linux environment.
