Mastodon is interoperable, decentralized, operated by a nonprofit, lively, and, ACTUALLY, isn't hard to use. So why is everyone championing Threads as the main Twitter alternative?

Not the best name for a website, I clicked the link and saw a big 404 popup and immediately backed out assuming the link was broken lol

Yeah I guess the guy felt it was clever for his blog or something.

It would have been better with something more interesting, like maybe 418 - “I’m a teapot” : https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Status/418

:)

It’s not a blog. These are the strongest of the tech journalists from Vice News’s Motherboard (tech section) who started their own separate venture independent of Motherboard.

Had no idea! Thank you. :)

Same thing happened to me, initially, when 404 media created their site.

The name is clever, but it has to hurt them in exactly this way.

They actually have a mastodon account ! @[email protected] One of the few sites that talks about how great mastodon is and actually is on mastodon 😄

And I agree with him. People who say “mastodon is complicated” are making it complicated. It’s about as easy as choosing an email provider and then following the same sign up procedure as everywhere else.

Yeah if it’s complicated to pick a server… Humanity is lost… :)

I would recommend that 404media self-host. It would be even better for their journalists and staff. This would require either paying for their instance or some IT person to help them out. Either way, I think all news organizations should self-host their mastodon instances.
