Steam :: Inkbound :: Removing In-game Monetization

Today we are announcing that we are removing all in-game monetization from Inkbound in our next major update on October 27th, 2023.

They originally had a battle pass and cash shop, but after backlash they’re moving away from that model and will have all cosmetics earned by playing the game. Exciting news!

Great game! Finished plenty of runs myself, and never had a problem with their cosmetic battle passes, but this is a crazy good step in the right direction! I wish they would add more content though…I’ve beaten the same 3 final bosses far too many times to find it enjoyable anymore.

I’ve played the open beta and while I did enjoy it I felt like there wasn’t much content yet. Have many things been added since then?

Didn’t know this existed (and microtransactions would have been a deal breaker), but monster train is good and I’m tempted to grab this now.

And as for “no FOMO”, that’s just straight up, uncomplicatedly untrue.

Most predatory in-game shops create FOMO by offering exclusive items for short time windows only. Or they offer massive, often personalized, timed discounts on overpriced items. Or they offer expensive purchases of previously timed exclusive in-game items.

I’d argue that it’s not impossible to run a “no FOMO” cosmetics shop, but it probably wouldn’t be very profitable. No idea how Inkbound’s shop worked, though - I never played the game.
